Heart Connections - December 2022

December was a great month for adoptions, with 47 pets finding their forever homes! Also, 83 pets were transferred to adoption-guaranteed partners through our Highway to Home program. Thank you to everyone for making December such an amazing month for the people and pets of the communities we serve.

December 2022 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.

Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is excited to announce the opening of its “Unleash Your Heart for the Love of Paws” annual on-line auction, and its $100,000 Matching Gift Challenge!

Click here to view the auction, purchase a ticket, place a bid, or donate. You’ll find great items on the Auction site that you can even ‘Buy Now!’ ‘Virtual’ tickets are also on sale that offer a gala-to-go bag filled with delicious treats for people and pets available for pickup on January 28, the day the auction closes. Be sure to check the site often because new items will be added.

2022 was a busy year for GMHS' Fixin' to Save Spay & Neuter Clinic. The clinic altered 3,889 pets this year! These animals include GMHS/GCAC pets and pets from members of our community, other local shelters and rescues, and community cats. We are grateful for an amazing 2022 and look forward to continuing to offer access to low- and no-cost spay/neuter surgeries in 2023!

Call (804) 694-0349 to inquire about services and make your pet’s appointment. Stay in touch with the clinic team by visiting them on the web and Facebook.

Thanks to our friends at Gloucester Brewing Company for sharing their heart with the homeless pets of GMHS! All proceeds from their Mug Club Lottery were donated to GMHS in December.

Our friends with Cub Scout Pack 340, West Point, Virginia visited GMHS to deliver homemade dog treats and cat toys. They enjoyed a shelter tour and meeting some of our furry residents. Thank you all for sharing your heart for homeless pets!

The Dixon family brought some holiday cheer to the pets of GMHS, and we are grateful for the donation of pet supplies. We are thankful to call you our friends!
