Full Session Schedule Posted

The FMEC Annual Meeting will feature a large and exciting agenda, with 93 Lecture Discussions, 28 Papers, 8 Clinical Camp Tables, 22 Research and Quality Improvement Sessions, 19 Clinical Success/Speed Stories, 25 Breakfast Discussion Tables, 56 Seminars, 54 Workshops, and 131 Posters. The full schedule of sessions has been posted on the FMEC website so speakers can find their sessions and you can start building your schedule. Watch your email for announcements about the conference app, which will be released in mid-September.

Preconferences Support POCUS, ALSO, Faculty Development, More

FMEC offers preconferences at the Annual Meeting to provide more in-depth learning as well as to help programs meet ACGME guidelines and other requirements. You do not need to register for the entire Annual Meeting to attend a preconference. Space is limited! The ALSO Provider Course is closed, and only a few spots remain in the POCUS Preconference. Space is available for the ALSO Instructor Courser, the session on AI and faculty development, and Master the FACTS of the Female Cycle. Don’t Miss These Plenary Speakers

Plenary speakers will include Drs. Kisha Davis, Mike Varshavski, and Kaitlin Baston, who will show the power and breadth of family medicine and educate and enlighten the audience about critical and emerging issues for primary healthcare. Medical students in the FMEC region are eligible for scholarships that cover their Annual Meeting registration, meals, and lodging. Watch for Hotel Scams

The FMEC has a contract for sleeping rooms with Harrah’s Atlantic City, and you can book rooms by calling 888-516-2215 and using group code SHO9FM6 or going to the booking page set up by Harrah’s for our meeting. As usual, FMEC members are getting emails from booking agents promising discounted rooms at Harrah’s and nearby properties for the meeting. These emails are not legitimate and do not represent FMEC or Harrah’s. Please only use the instructions above to book rooms. As of this email, the FMEC sold its entire room block. We have added additional rooms, but capacity is limited. The deadline for booking rooms at the group rate is September 3, 2026.

FMEC Promoting Early Childhood Development Webinar Posted

On August 5, FMEC partnered with the Mount Sinai Parenting Center to host a webinar on early childhood development and positive parenting. Those who missed the live session can watch the 45-minute recording on the FMEC’s YouTube channel here: Resources to Support FMRPs in Promoting Early Childhood Development and Positive Parenting. This webinar is part of FMEC’s efforts to develop a residency learning network project on child health and development. To learn more, join FMEC leaders at the FMEC Annual Meeting, where we will host a Breakfast Discussion on Saturday morning (Table 24: Promoting Early Childhood Development: Free Resources and QI Collaborative) or you can visit the FMEC or Mount Sinai Parenting Center exhibit tables. And don’t miss Mount Sinai’s workshop, Weaving Relational Health and Child Development into Everyday Primary Care, on Saturday morning.

Young Breast Cancer Survivor Webinars

The FMEC’s five‑part webinar series to help family physicians better understand and support young breast cancer survivors (YBCS) is under way, with two of five sessions held and recordings posted. You can participate in as many sessions as you are able. Future sessions in September and October will address diet, exercise, intimacy, mental health, and real life scenarios from cancer and primary care experts. Share this with the nurses, NPs, and PAs on your care team so they can help provide support to YBCS patients. Visit Young Breast Cancer Survivorship Series for more information and to register. Both the live and recorded sessions in the Young Breast Cancer Survivorship Series have been approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) for AAFP Prescribed credit; see full CME credit details on the FMEC project page.

Webinar on Clinical Reasoning and AI Scheduled for October 6

On October 6, 2026 from 11:30am-12:15am Eastern, FMEC and AMBOSS will host a webinar titled Protecting Clinical Reasoning in the Age of AI. The webinar will feature discussion of the need to teach residents a structured approach to the safe and responsible use of AI in clinical practice, with a focus on protecting clinical reasoning. Speakers will explore how AI can scaffold reasoning, supporting hypothesis generation, data prioritization, and reflective calibration, while avoiding the black-box answers that bypass the critical cognitive work of clinical reasoning. Mark your calendars, and watch for information on how to register from FMEC.

Topics included competency-based education, navigating SOAP; ACGME site visit success; faculty scheduling; ERAS changes, and more. 

Comment on CMS Rule Change by September 14

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed a new Medicare billing code for Shared Medical Appointments (SMAs), HCPCS code GSMAS, as part of its 2026 Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule. This proposal has the potential to significantly influence the future of SMA implementation, reimbursement, patient access, and program sustainability. While CMS is recognizing the value of SMAs as an evidence-based approach to chronic disease prevention and management, several proposed requirements may inadvertently limit the flexibility and effectiveness that have contributed to successful SMA programs. The proposed rule acknowledges many of the benefits long documented in the SMA literature. However, key details regarding session duration, eligible conditions, group size, reimbursement, multidisciplinary billing, and FQHC participation remain open for public comment. Public comments can be submitted by visiting https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/CMS-2026-2377-0002.

FMEC can “bundle” your invoices for Partnership dues, Residency Fair booths, and faculty and resident individual registrations. We can also invoice your program at specific times during the year, for instance if it’s easier for you to pay at the beginning of your fiscal year, or you have funds left at the end of the fiscal year to put toward next year.
