FMEC Programs Offer Performance Improvement Credit
The FMEC has convened learning networks/collaboratives for many years, but recently, we’ve prioritized securing Performance Improvement (PI) AAFP Prescribed credits for physician participation. By joining and completing an FMEC learning collaborative project, FMEC staff will submit your name and AAFP ID number to the AAFP and ABFM, attesting that you have completed the PI activity. If you are an AAFP member, 20 Prescribed credits will be added to your AAFP portfolio. If you are board certified with the ABFM, 20 Performance Improvement credits for participation in the activity will be added to your ABFM portfolio. Since 2023, we’ve helped nearly 100 physicians with this requirement. Read more about FMEC’s projects at FMEC Residency Learning Networks and watch your FMEC email for the next opportunities to join our learning collaborative projects.

Perils of Online Calculators
Free calculators are online for just about everything these days, including student loan payments. However, these tools only provide one limited view of your situation, and the results can often be misleading. A good example is the FSA Loan Simulator – free on studentaid.gov – which can give you an overview of potential repayment options, but it doesn’t provide the complete picture.
Online calculators often rely on simplified assumptions that may not fit your specific circumstances. They do not factor in detailed variables such as career progression, residency transitions, or household changes. Depending solely on these tools can lead to inaccurate expectations about monthly payments or long-term costs. Personalized guidance can help avoid costly mistakes when planning repayment or forgiveness strategies.
Connect with FMEC’s partners at Navigate, who can provide precise, scenario-based estimates of your monthly payments under various plans, project how your payments may change as your income grows, and help you understand how major life changes—like getting married or switching plans—can impact your loan strategy. Use this special link so Navigate knows we sent you: https://navigate.as.me/FMEC.

The FMEC can “bundle” your invoices for Partnership dues, Residency Fair booths, and faculty and resident individual registrations. We can also invoice your program at specific times during the year, for instance if it’s easier for you to pay at the beginning of your fiscal year, or you have funds left at the end of the fiscal year to put toward next year. If you would like special handling of your payments to the FMEC, contact Shayla Rammel at shayla.rammel@fmec.net.
