AHEC Scholars Program:
We Are Recruiting AHEC Scholars!
Apply today to become an AHEC Scholar! As an AHEC Scholar, students will join a cohort of Florida’s 150 best interdisciplinary health professions students for two years. The Florida AHEC Scholars Program is a national initiative committed to transforming community health care by preparing the student leaders of tomorrow. This program will provide students, both clinical and non-clinical, with interprofessional learning opportunities focused on building the skills and competencies needed to help transform primary care and improve patient care. This two-year program (students must have two remaining years at their college/university) offers 40 hours of didactic public health lessons, plus 40 hours of clinical or experiential learning in medically underserved areas, each year of the program, enhancing a student's traditional curriculum by offering opportunities to:

  • Learn more about the roles and responsibilities of other health professions.
  • Work in team-based environments that foster inclusivity and focus on patient-centered care.
  • Broaden scope of practice and learn strategies to become a better practitioner.
  • Learn and understand the unique challenges that face underserved and rural populations when accessing care and achieving good health status.

A $500 stipend will be provided to the students, each year of the program, as well as state and national recognition for their participation in the AHEC Scholars program.
