ICF GA September Chapter Meeting
Body-Centered Coaching with Patricia Hinton Walker
Wednesday, September 9, 2020
7:00 pm to 8:30 pm EST
With many people living in an increasingly disembodied world at the computer and on mobile devices, learn about and literally experience and practice body-centered coaching! Often, we do not realize that our ‘whole beings,’ including our bodies, are communicating with us. Sitting endless hours at home or work, staring at screens, makes us become disconnected from ALL of our senses in a culture that almost exclusively, values learning through our Head Center.
Learning Objectives

• Effectively use the principles of body-centered coaching while coaching all types of clients.
• Build Body-Centered Coaching knowledge and skills.
• Deepen knowledge of the inclusion of the body and the neuroscience-related basis of
body-centered coaching.
• Add to a toolkit of practical interventions to use with clients.

CCEUS: .75 Core Competencies and .25 Resource Development

Body-Centered Coaching (developed by Marlena Field), builds on an integration of the teachings of the Hakomi Method and ICF coaching competencies.

These techniques combine mindfulness with access to the body’s wisdom and intelligence, creating a whole-person centered approach. It enables clients to experience a greater depth of insight, awareness and recognize the need to engage the body in positive ways, especially during these stressful times.
Patricia Hinton Walker, PhD, RN, FAAN, MCC, CBCC, NBC-HWC, is an accomplished coach and ICF Coach Trainer at MentorCoach LLC, in Bethesda, MD. She provides leadership for the Health and Wellness Coaching Certification program at MentorCoach (an ACTP program). She is one of the few approved, certified Body-Centered Coach Trainers who integrates this content into all of her coaching. She is creative, experienced, brings life and humor to teaching/training while focusing on use of evidence-based coaching and education strategies.
Pat is certified in health/wellness (CWC), executive (CEC), Body-Centered (CBCC), and Social-Emotional Intelligence coaching (SEI Coach) and is provisionally certified in the Community Resiliency Model (CRM, designed to assist individuals with strategies using body-centered approaches to stay in their ‘resilience zone’ particularly during stressful times. Recognized as a leader in the application of mHealth (mobile health) technology/data for just-in-time evidence for health behavior change, she advocates for the use of population health data and its use in improving health and wellness in businesses and organizations.

ICF Georgia Webinar Coaching Presence:
The Art of Giving Up The Need to Know
with Lerae Gidyk, MCC
Thursday, September 24, 2020
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST
Time for the fun stuff! In this session, we will take two core competencies, Active Listening
and Powerful Questioning, and
turn them into your coaching presence SUPERPOWERS!
Whether our busy minds need to know the answer, the "right" question, the details of a situation, or any number of other distractions, our attachment to "knowing," limits our ability to expand our listening presence and diminishes our curiosity.
In this webinar, we will dive deeply into what it means to give up the need to "know" and give you tips to expand your overall coaching presence. The most powerful questions come from deep contextual listening which we can do more effectively when we are fully present. Therein lies our opportunity as coaches.

Business Success Tip

Communicate What You’re Up
To During These Uncertain Times
Have you been receiving emails from Ed from Delta? Me too.

Apparently, Ed, is the CEO of Delta Airlines. As many of you are (were?) Delta frequent flyers, you may have been drawn to read his email updates.

I wanted to know what Delta was doing to keep their passengers and crew safe, while trying to run a company during this pandemic. Ed would not only share information about the precautions Delta was taking, but that he was also missing weddings and graduations with his own family too.

It was an official business communication but with a real person behind it. It made me WANT to read it.

This is a perfect opportunity to send out an email (or two) about what you and your company are up to in these changing and increasingly virtual times.

Your clients may assume that just because you both always worked together in person, that you can’t do it virtually. Let them know how you have adapted.

Perhaps you have added or re-introduced coaching topics, programs or trainings that are relevant to the top issues people and companies are facing today. Anything to do with stress management, virtual learning, managing emotions, resiliency, team communication, personal leadership, wellness, mindfulness and creativity are hot topics right now.

My son, Nick, age 23, works for a global engineering company and is also finishing up his college degree. He just attended a company wide Zoom training on how to be professional on Zoom. That was a great opportunity that trainer hopped on! She responded to the companies that needed to educate their young professionals — reinforcing a Zoom meeting wasn’t the same as a TikTok video. That was great listening and responsiveness to the needs of her clients!

As you share your updates, make sure to add something a little personal. Give them a peek into your life, business, or how you’ve been perfecting the best sourdough bread during Covid! Before you doubt sharing something personally, look around. Have you noticed how the world has taken the word authentic to a whole new level? During a Zoom call, we want to see a picture of you with your kid coloring beside you or your dog who wants to love all over you during an important call.

It makes you more real during this time as we are seeking what’s genuine and honest.

What is one thing professionally and personally you could let your community know about in an email update? You never know when your email will be the perfect message they needed to hear!

Remember, what you do today plants seeds in your business to bloom in 30, 60 & 90 days and even 6 months and 1 year.
