The State of the Village is Strong!

Our 2023 State of the Village Address at lovely Thalatta Estate Park was a magical event that lifted the spirits of everyone who watched or participated in it! Mayor Karyn Cunningham and our MC Adriana Verdeja kept our audience entertained and informed, with plenty of help from The Children’s Voice Chorus and the many special guests who were recognized with awards. Our Parks & Recreation staff did an amazing job of creating a beautiful setting for this esteemed event, and we hope everyone who either attended in person or watched the live broadcast from home enjoyed the program!

You can still watch the replay of the event on our Facebook page or YouTube channel, and see more photos on our Facebook post.

Safety Tips for the Holiday Shopping Season

On Friday, November 24, 2023, the Palmetto Bay Policing Unit kicked off its annual Holiday Crime Initiative to keep our residents and visitors from falling victim to the “Grinch.” Below are some safety tips for online and in-person shoppers!

Holiday Shoppers:

• Be aware of your surroundings.

• Park in well-lit areas.

• Keep purses or pocketbooks close to you.

• Remember to "lock it or lose it"

• Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.

• Do not leave gifts or valuables visible in vehicles.

• Do not leave your purses, wallets and packages unattended.

Online Shoppers and Cyber Security:

• Place orders from a secure connection to avoid potentially

malicious software.

• Make purchases from known and reputable online retailers.

• Avoid offers that seem “too good to be true.”

• Avoid using debit cards for online purchases. Use a credit card, PayPal, or gift cards instead.

Online Shoppers and Preventing Package Thefts:

• Install a video doorbell and surveillance cameras.

• Consider a more secure delivery method such as delivery to office or place of employment.

• Take advantage of other delivery options, such as delivery to secure lockers or participating

retail locations.

• Consider purchasing a porch lockbox for secure deliveries.

• Schedule deliveries for times when someone is home.

• Ask neighbor or friend to pick up packages.
