Lacey's Newest Play Structure Now "Officially" Open - Welcome Aboard!
Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate the grand opening of the new tugboat-themed playground at William A. Bush Park, replacing the oldest play structure in Lacey’s park system. It was a wonderful reminder of what is possible through strong partnerships, shared vision, and local support.
And, a big shout-out to everyone who helped make this project possible. It was brought to life through collaboration between the City, a generous donation from the Gateway Rotary Club of Thurston County, a grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and strong community support. Local kids and families even helped select the final design, ensuring the playground reflects the ideas, creativity, and needs of our community.
We are proud to open this exciting new space for our community and invite you to stop by William A. Bush Park to experience Lacey’s newest place to play!

Lacey Approved for Expanded Outdoor Alcohol Service
In 2025, the State Legislature passed HB 1515, allowing cities, counties, and ports to create temporary “libation zones.” These designated areas let liquor-licensed businesses expand outdoor alcohol service during and after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The City has received approval from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) to allow expanded outdoor service under HB 1515. Eligible businesses, including spirits, beer, and wine restaurants, taverns, and similar establishments, may apply to expand alcohol service into outdoor areas on properties with indoor dining.
Applications must meet general requirements, including barriers or clear boundaries around expanded service areas and employee MAST certification. Additional requirements may apply depending on the size and scope of the proposed project.

Apply to be a Lacey Youth Council Member
The City is accepting Lacey Youth Council (LYC) applications from 2026-2027 sophomores, juniors, and seniors who attend public or private schools, alternative education programs, or are home-schooled in the Lacey area. The application period is open now through Monday, July 6.
The LYC serves as an advisory board to the Lacey City Council (Council). It was created to encourage civic engagement and bridge the gap between youth and local government by involving them in community activities and providing leadership opportunities.
The LYC meets twice a month during the school year, including a monthly, in-person report to the Council. This provides LYC members an opportunity to:
- Gain insight into how local government functions and serves the community.
- Offer youth-driven insights and recommendations to Council and staff.
- Participate in community projects.
- Earn 30 or more hours of community service or a stipend of $50 per meeting, up to $500 per year.

| | REMINDER: Odd-Even Mandatory Watering Schedule Begins June 1 | |
From June to September, the average daily water usage of all Lacey water customers more than doubles — from about 6 million gallons in the winter to 15 million gallons in the summer (see graph on right). Rather than add costly infrastructure to meet the increased demand for only four months a year, in 2006, the City started an alternating day watering schedule. This helps manage demand during the summer and keeps costs down.
Before starting the odd-even watering practice, Lacey’s average summer peak water demand was 17 million gallons a day. In 2024, the average peak demand was reduced to 15 million gallons a day — a considerable decrease, even though the number of Lacey water customers increased!
You can apply for a temporary exemption or variance if you planted a new lawn (sod or seed) or landscape area, or have an irrigation system that waters areas on both sides of the street at the same time. To apply, contact Water Resources at 360-438-2687 or WaterResources@CityofLacey.org.

Did You Know?
The City does not limit the amount of water you can use. However, if we all take turns, we can deliver enough water with our existing system and our community can avoid building additional water infrastructure needed for only four months of the year. For example, a new well would cost about $2 million. Infrastructure projects like this are paid for by utility payers.

Help Shape the Future of Lacey’s Stormwater Programs and Projects
The City invites community input as it updates its 2026 Stormwater Strategic Plan (SSP), a long-range plan that will guide stormwater programs and projects through 2035.
Community members can review the draft plan and submit comments through 5 p.m. on Monday, July 20. The plan and comment link are available on the SSP update webpage.
Stormwater is rain or snow that flows over streets, parking lots, rooftops, and other hard surfaces. Managing that runoff plays an important role in reducing flooding, protecting local lakes and streams, and maintaining water quality throughout the community.
The updated SSP outlines priorities and recommendations for the next nine years, including:
- Stormwater management goals and programs
- Impacts from growth, climate, and environmental factors
- Recommended projects and maintenance efforts
- Capital improvement planning
- Future staffing and resource needs

Tickets Now on Sale for the Olympia-Lacey Fan Zone World Cup Celebrations
Tickets are now on sale for the Olympia-Lacey Fan Zone, a community viewing and celebration space coming to Olympia’s waterfront at Port Plaza during the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
The Fan Zone will feature live match broadcasts on a large outdoor screen, along with music, entertainment, and interactive activities designed to bring fans together throughout each match day. Local food and beverage vendors will also be on site, creating a lively but relaxed setting to watch the games and spend time with friends and family.
Four featured match days are scheduled between June 19 and 26, including USA matches and select international games. Each event day will offer its own programming and atmosphere, giving attendees multiple chances to take part in the celebration.
Tickets are available for general admission, with pricing intended to keep the event accessible for a wide range of attendees. Youth 12 and under will be admitted free, and limited VIP options are also available.
The Fan Zone is a regional partnership between the Cities of Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater, along with Thurston County and the Port of Olympia. Together, the partners are working to create a shared local space to experience one of the world’s largest sporting events.
As Seattle hosts official World Cup matches in 2026, the Olympia-Lacey Fan Zone offers a nearby opportunity to join in the excitement and be part of the global event. See you there!

Shape Lacey’s Future and Preserve Its Past: Apply for an Advisory Board!
Looking for a way to get involved in your community? The City is currently recruiting for openings on both the Historical Commission and the Library Board, giving residents a chance to help shape programs, services, and initiatives that support the community for years to come.

The Historical Commission has one vacancy on its seven-member board. The commission advises the City Council on historic preservation efforts, including identifying and protecting historic sites, promoting awareness of local history, and supporting heritage programs and activities throughout the community.
Commission members play an important role in preserving Lacey’s story and helping future generations stay connected to the city’s past. The Historical Commission typically meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Lacey City Hall.

The City is also recruiting for one unexpired term on the six-member Library Board. Applicants for the Library Board vacancy must live within Lacey city limits. The term expires February 2, 2039.
The Library Board helps develop long-range plans for library services in Lacey and provides guidance on ways local libraries can continue serving the community’s evolving needs. The board includes five general members and one youth representative and meets on the third Thursday of January, April, June, and October at 5:30 p.m. at Lacey City Hall.
Stipend Available
To help reduce barriers to participation and increase representation in local government, advisory board members are eligible for a $50 stipend per meeting, up to $500 per year. The stipend is intended to help offset costs such as childcare, transportation, internet access, and other expenses related to participating in meetings.
Whether you are passionate about local history, library services, or community involvement, serving on a board or commission is a meaningful way to make a lasting impact in Lacey.
