Fudge Named Top Treat In Cooking Contest
Sara Buck’s first-place Pumpkin Fudge brought a delicious hint of fall flavor to the candy-themed Heritage Cooking Contest Sept. 9.

Twenty-five contestants competed in the Alabama Farmers Federation Women’s Leadership Division event. April Lewis of Limestone County won second place with Fruit Nut Creamy Fudge, while Crenshaw County's Elaine Bozeman and Lemon Fudge were third.
Swine Show Joins Livestock Contest Lineup
The Alabama Farmers Federation is strengthening the state’s premier livestock show presence by adding another species to the weeklong competition held during the Southeastern Livestock Exposition.

This March, the inaugural Junior Swine Expo will join the Junior Beef Expo in Montgomery. The state hog show is an exciting addition to an already-impressive contest, said Federation President Jimmy Parnell.

Leaders Welcome AU Livestock Judging Coach
A welcome reception for new Auburn University livestock judging program coach Jonah Biensch was held at the Alabama Cattlemen's Association building in Montgomery Sept. 2.

The Texas Tech University grad began reviving the program earlier this summer. Biensch's hire is supported by $250,000 in the Alabama Education Trust Fund budget championed by Sen. Randy Price, R-Opelika, and others.

A.L.F.A. Leaders Class Practices Media Training
The Agricultural Leaders For Alabama (A.L.F.A. Leaders) Class V met at the Alabama 4-H Center this week for the third institute of their two-year program.

The group learned 7 Es that create exceptional leaders; participated in a ropes course exercise; held mock television interviews as part of media training (pictured are Federation News Services Director Mary Wilson and Brad Cox of Fayette County); and worked on their capstone project.
Campaign School A Success
The Alabama Farmers Federation held its Campaign School for current and prospective elected officials Sept. 7 in Decatur. The event provided an in-depth look into what it takes to qualify, manage and run for office.

Presenters covered topics such as the pros and cons of running for office, campaign planning and budgeting, building a grassroots volunteer base and more. The intensive day concluded with a panel of current elected officials to answer questions and discuss real-world scenarios.

Farmers Give Back
The Pickens County Farmers Federation recently donated 240 pounds of chicken to the Alabama Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Eldridge. The Alabama-grown chicken will provide healthy, nutritious meals for children, most of whom are from troubled domestic situations and are in need of a safe, secure home.

The Alabama Wheat & Feed Grain Producers sponsored shirts for the Auburn University Ag Ambassadors for 2021-22. The students help recruit prospective students, meet alumni and host events for the college.
