Interfaith Thanksgiving Program
3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts

Please join the Interfaith Alliance of Champaign County for a program of Thanksgiving. We will come together across all faith streams to offer thanks, to sing, and to pledge to work to make our community stronger and safer. Admission is free, but attendees are requested to bring a non-perishable food item to support the Eastern Illinois Food Bank. Interfaith Alliance of CU is a coalition of faith communities, social service agencies, and political leaders united to support the common good in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Members of UUCUC are active in this important interfaith group.

Also, there will be a blood drive for Community Blood Services running at Krannert from  1:30-4:30 PM  in conjunction with the program.  The drive is dedicated to the memory of Ray Spooner. Register to donate at www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use sponsor code 71017. This code is also valid throughout the week of 11/20 for donations made at Community Blood Center's offices.

Daily Bread Soup Kitchen Backpack Project

Celebrate the holidays by giving backpacks filled with goodies to warm, nourish and support men and women who are guests at the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen.  With a forecast of a cold winter ahead and with the current lack of shelter spaces in our community, these backpacks will be especially welcome this year.

Please stuff your backpack with toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, deodorant, hand lotion for hands chapped by the cold, shampoo, soap, etc., and with cold weather items such as gloves, hats, scarves, socks, sweatshirts, tee shirts, long underwear, and regular underwear. Other items could include hand warmers, cough drops, books, decks of cards, small fleece blankets, candy, gum, and non-perishable food items. All items should be new. All back packs should be new or nearly new as well.

Label your donated backpack with gender and size of intended recipient (i.e. Male-XL or Female-M).  Experience has shown us that XL & XXL are often requested.  Please note that we will not be giving out children’s backpacks this year.

Drop your filled and labeled backpack at the Social Action Table in Fellowship Hall from December 4 – December 11 anytime the church is open.  Please sign the donor list on the Social Action table.  Tax forms will be available.  After the 11th, you can still donate a backpack by dropping it off directly at the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, 124 West White St., Champaign, at the back door, between 9 and noon from December 12-15.

Join us in maintaining this wonderful holiday project tradition!  If you have questions, contact Sandy Hannum.

DECORATING THE SANCTUARY
FOR WINTER HOLIDAYS
Lift Up Someone and Decorate Our Sanctuary!
You have a way to both honor or remember someone important to you and decorate our lovely Sanctuary for the winter holidays.  Please stop by the Poinsettia Table in the Fellowship Hall Sunday morning and fill out an envelope to purchase a poinsettia in honor or memory of someone important to you.  We have twenty-four windows to fill!  If you have questions, contact  Beth Cobb.

NEWS AND UPDATES
Circle Suppers are an opportunity to share dinner and conversation with other members & friends of UUCUC.  Circle Suppers are inter-generational and welcome families with children, couples, and singles. They are held in a hosting member’s home and each person attending brings a dish or drinks as designated by the host to share with others.

If you are interested in attending and/or hosting a Circle Supper in 2017, please sign up after  Sunday  Service at the Membership Hub Table and you will be contacted at the beginning of the month you sign up for. You can also contact Nancy Dietrich at   or Sara Schumacher    to sign up.

Take time to relax with fellow UUs at the December Circle Supperon Saturday December 10.  UUs of all ages are encouraged to join us for food and fellowship in an informal potluck dinner.  Widen your circle of UU friends by sharing a casual evening together.  To attend or host, please sign up by November 27. Questions? contact: circle-supper@uucuc.org
Help Keep Us Safe   Please do  not  prop open any of the doors at church. We know that it is convenient to prop open doors and that it may seem more welcoming. But, it isn't safe. Even if you are standing nearby and plan to secure the door later, you may forget or not notice when someone enters. Instead, feel free to post someone at a locked door who can let folks into the building. Take turns so no one has to staff the door for long. Thank you for keeping us safe.

Are you a "voting member" of UUCUC?  If you signed the book at least 10 days ago and have made an "identifiable contribution" of $100 or more since July 2015, you are a voting member (ByLaws). Maintain your voting member status by contributing online, with a check, a gift of stock, or cash in an envelope with your name on it.

Financial waivers are available.  Talk to the Minister if you are having a lean year.  Our Financial Secretary, Amy Robison, will be sending letters to folks we haven't heard from in awhile.  To verify your current status, email Amy or call her at 398.6154.

JOYS AND SORROWS
From Karen Retzer -- A JOY!  In appreciation of Ben Joselyn who organized a group to stand in solidarity with our neighbors at the mosque.

From Sandy Hannum -- A JOY!  Jim had successful knee replacement surgery on Monday and is recovering nicely.  Thanks for all the well wishes.  They mean a lot to us.
