Health and Hope Clinic July/August Newsletter

It's that time again! HHC is beginning to think "Christmas" in July--as we had a tremendous turnout at our first Christmas at the Clinic Gala Committee Meeting Today! Huge thanks to all the great volunteers who came out to support our effort---and an extra-special thank you to Robert Barnes and his team from Chic Fil A 9-Mile Road for stepping up and providing lunches for all our meetings! Thanks Chic Fil A 9-Mile Road!

Rock Star Volunteer of the Month:

Leslie Provist

Leslie Provist.jpg

Currently, I am a graduate student with the University of West Florida getting my Master's degree in social work. I was assigned to be with the Health and Hope Clinic to complete my internship and what a wonderful experience I have had! My internship with the Clinic started mid-May and ends the second week in August. Although my field education ends next month, I will continue to serve as a volunteer, primarily with new client intakes and recertifications of current patients. (And I thank Trish and Principal Barb for guiding me in the process).

While a majority of my time is spent conducting the intake procedure, I assist with completing patient referrals; and occasionally sit in with Ms. Marretta, ARNP, observing clients who struggle with mental health issues. My favorite part about the Clinic is serving individuals in need of services, those who are chronically ill and without the funding resources to afford treatment. It makes my heart happy to know that clients will get appropriate medical and mental health care. My other favorite part is being surrounded by such loving and dedicated staff, volunteers, and students.

Upon graduation in August 2022, I will obtain licensure, a LCSW. I plan to work more directly with clients suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues, hopefully in a non-profit environment. In my free time, I spend time with my two cats, Redford and Milkshake Nugget and family (yes, in that order. LOL). I enjoy anything and everything outdoors, especially kayaking and riding my bicycle.

The Most Important Part of our Mission is HOPE!

We had a patient come in at our clinic just this week who received a devastating diagnosis of cancer. But our amazing Dr. Hyman gave him compassionate care, and a warm handoff to our encourager lead, Gary Humrichouser. Gary extended this patient HOPE in the form of love, resources, and led him --on the spot-- to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior!

How Your Clinic Stays in the Fight against COVID-19!

In addition to our onsite vaccinations done every Thursday from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM for our patients, volunteers, and anyone in the community-we are also going OUT into the community to vaccinate. We are partnering with various nonprofits to join them remotely in order to administer the COVID-19 Vaccine--including just this past weekend in Brownsville at the Dixon School of the Arts and Sciences Community Festival
