Currently, I am a graduate student with the University of West Florida getting my Master's degree in social work. I was assigned to be with the Health and Hope Clinic to complete my internship and what a wonderful experience I have had! My internship with the Clinic started mid-May and ends the second week in August. Although my field education ends next month, I will continue to serve as a volunteer, primarily with new client intakes and recertifications of current patients. (And I thank Trish and Principal Barb for guiding me in the process).
While a majority of my time is spent conducting the intake procedure, I assist with completing patient referrals; and occasionally sit in with Ms. Marretta, ARNP, observing clients who struggle with mental health issues. My favorite part about the Clinic is serving individuals in need of services, those who are chronically ill and without the funding resources to afford treatment. It makes my heart happy to know that clients will get appropriate medical and mental health care. My other favorite part is being surrounded by such loving and dedicated staff, volunteers, and students.
Upon graduation in August 2022, I will obtain licensure, a LCSW. I plan to work more directly with clients suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues, hopefully in a non-profit environment. In my free time, I spend time with my two cats, Redford and Milkshake Nugget and family (yes, in that order. LOL). I enjoy anything and everything outdoors, especially kayaking and riding my bicycle.
