Virtual foreign delegations visit Arizona with a focus on advocacy and empowerment
In September, Global Ties Arizona (GTAZ) had the pleasure of virtually hosting two delegations through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) with visitors from across 15 countries.

In early September, we hosted 11 European education leaders focusing on "Advancing Civic Engagement Among High School Youth." The leaders met with Matt Myers, Executive Director, and Trevor Gahona, Sr. Instructor, at SPOT 127 - a Youth Media Center. The delegation also had a chance to converse with two SPOT 127 Alumni - Jennifer Alvarez, Videographer/Producer at ASU Enterprise Partners, and Hamblet Lemus, Student Productions Assistant at SPOT 127. This meeting addressed the organization's dynamic media programs, which empower youth to craft their unique voices, grow professionally, and strengthen their capabilities as young change-makers through civic engagement.
Delegates hear from Matt Myers (Exec. Director), Trevor Gahona (Sr. Instructor) of SPOT 127 on September 8.
Rosalie Hernandez (Program Manager), Cindy Rodriguez (Program Manager), Kim Hubbard (Program Manager) and Laura Bode (Director of Community Engagement) from A New Leaf with delegates on September 27.
GTAZ concluded the month with a project featuring 8 delegates from the Middle East, focusing on "Preventing and Confronting Domestic Violence and Abuse." The delegation met with staff at A New Leaf, Rosalie Hernandez, Cindy Rodriguez, Kim Hubbard, and Laura Bode. The meeting highlighted several legal, social, emotional, and advocacy services that are locally available to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, including emergency crisis shelters, 24/7 hotline services, court advocacy support programs and danger assessments.

In October, GTAZ looks forward to welcoming three new IVLP delegations. Visit our website to learn more about our past and upcoming IVLP projects!
Dining for Diplomacy: Oaxaca, Mexico
Global Ties Arizona launched its new series, "Dining for Diplomacy", in September. The first edition featured Oaxaca, Mexico and celebrated Mexico's Day of Independence and Hispanic Heritage Month in partnership with the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix.

Following special remarks from the Honorable Jorge Mendoza Yescas, Consul General of the Consulate of Mexico in Phoenix, Gabriel Sánchez, certified tour guide in Oaxaca, presented on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism of Oaxaca, sharing the fascinating history of Oaxaca's role in Mexico gaining independence from Spain. While attendees joined the event virtually, Las 15 Salsas, a local Oaxacan restaurant in Phoenix, had prepared an accompanying meal for pick-up which consisted of authentic Oaxacan cuisine, including three different kinds of mole over chicken or cheese enchiladas. If you would like to learn more about Oaxaca, you can watch the event recording here.
Sharing the best of Flagstaff with international visitors
As we continue to welcome delegations virtually to Arizona, we want to make sure that our international visitors are able to experience as much of our state as possible!
Click on the video to check out the third addition to our "Welcome to Arizona" archives, featuring Flagstaff, Arizona! On this guided tour, visitors experience Flagstaff's eclectic mountain-town charm and nature-inspired lifestyles, while learning new ways to experience this city from all perspectives: whether it's high up in the pine trees or deep inside its cultural history. You will go on a private tour of Lowell Observatory, where the former planet Pluto was first discovered, and to the Museum of Northern Arizona, which houses rich stories from the Colorado Plateau and its Native American communities.
It is without a doubt that a trip to Flagstaff, whether virtual or in-person, will keep you coming back to visit time and time again!

PROST!
To a virtual tour of Germany!

Between Oktoberfest, American-German Day, and the recent elections, it was the perfect time to feature Germany in the September edition of GTAZ's monthly Destination Series. We visited charming German towns off the beaten path and learned how to make obatzda - a popular German cheese snack - great for your upcoming holiday parties!

If you missed it, be sure to check out the tour with Reiner Marks, Director of Business Development for Viking Cruises, here!
