Photo of the Month
With the sun blazing in the feed alley, the Hansen cows enjoy their morning meal on a winter day.

Cash Cow

We had no CA$H COW winners in December. When you've finished your gallon of milk, be on the lookout for those winning jugs!

With the changing of the calendar to 2019, our contest starts over for the year. We will label one jug with the big cash prize of $100 in January. Best chance to find it is right away at the beginning of the month! But make sure to keep looking throughout the month as we mark ten $5 jugs every week!

Look inside the jug toward the label to see a "5" or "100".

Customer of the Month
Rebecca Brooks and family
The January Customer of the Month is  Rebecca Brooks of Waterloo.

The Brooks family started going to the Hansen's Dairy store in Waterloo about five years ago when they moved here, and loved the ice cream.

" A few years back we found out that two of my kids and myself had an intolerance to dairy," Rebecca said. "We toured your dairy last fall and you shared that some people who have an intolerance to dairy can tolerate your milk because it is not homogenized. We tried it. My two kids are able to have it and they love it. Now we can all enjoy ice cream, milk, and the cheese curds." They love to put the cheese curds on burgers when they are grilling out.

Rebecca added that one of her children has to be on a special diet.

"We were so glad that you have no-sugar-added ice cream," she said. "We are so thankful that we can get all of this in Waterloo and it supports you all."

Thanks, Rebecca! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Cow of the Month
The January Cow of the Month is knocking on the door of the 100,000-pound club in lifetime milk production.

Drum is 5 and a half years old and has had four calves - one heifer (named Drummy) and three bulls.

Drum is a great cow to be around. She is always first in line to be milked and is very patient while waiting for other cows to be finished. She has a nice udder and strong feet and legs, so she has the potential to be in our herd for a long time. She may even hit 200,000 pounds of milk in her lifetime!

From Julie Grunklee, goodfoodconnections.com

Here's a super simple flourless pizza crust recipe that's sure to please every cheese lover. And all the ingredients can be purchased at Hansen's Dairy stores! This crust is fairly firm and can be eaten with your hands if the toppings aren't too heavy. You can leave off the usual top layer of cheese or add more if you like.
