Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count Celebrates Citizen Science
It can be a real thrill to see a rose-breasted grosbeak at the backyard feeder or to hear the steady drum of a pileated woodpecker digging into a decaying tree.
If you get amped when you see an avian or you just want to learn more about birding, join us December 17th for the 123rd Audubon Christmas Bird Count.
We’ll be counting birds at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary as part of the Allentown portion of the count.
Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count is one of the longest-running wildlife censuses in the world. Each count takes place over the course of 24 hours, in a 15-mile-wide circle.
We’re doing our part here in the Lehigh Valley to help provide a clearer picture on the health of the bird population as a whole.
You don’t have to be a pro to participate. You just have to be willing to gear up, get out and count birds.
We’ll provide binoculars if you need them.
The count takes place rain, snow or shine.
