REST's research study has been published in Home Health Care Services Quarterly, a national health care journal!
The article reports our findings on the effectiveness of REST training on respite providers, and the outcomes for family caregivers receiving respite services. Read/download the full article.
State Updates
Florida Atlantic University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, Boca Raton,  will hold a Companion class on March 14. The Center provides expert consulting, training and support, at no charge, for people with autism and related disabilities, their families, employers, the professionals and community and governmental agencies serving them.

Unicorn Children's Foundation will hold a Companion class on March 24, in Boca Raton. See details .

United Community Options of South Florida, Hialeah has a Companion class scheduled for March 26.  The mission of UCOSF is to positively impact the quality of life for children and adults with disabilities, as well as typically developing children, and their families, by providing a wide array of quality supports, services and programs that offer choices and options to assist each person in creating their own future based on personal goals and desires.

Two REST Master Trainer courses will take place this spring : on March 6-7 in Bloomingdale, and June 20-21, in Addison. The courses will prepare experienced REST trainers to conduct the two-day Train-the-Trainer course and to mobilize REST training throughout their communities. See course details.
A Train-the-Trainer course will take place on May 9-10 , in Hillside, through Voice of Care, a service organization of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. See information

Five individuals completed a Companion course on Feb. 24 , at Zion Lutheran Church, Grant Park, through Voice of Care .

Sixteen Companions were trained on Jan. 27 , at Humboldt General Hospital, through Age & Dementia Friendly of Winnemucca. See their photo .
A Companion class will take place on April 14 , at Humboldt General hospital, Winnemucca, through Nevada Aging and Disabilities Services Department. See details

REST Trainer Susan Haas , who is Executive Director and CEO of Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, recently described the agency's work, during a broadcast interview on KOLO-8 TV.  See the news clip here.

A Companion course took place on Feb. 14 , in Badger, through Northwest Community Action, Inc. The goal of the agency is to enable area low-income families and individuals of all ages to attain skills, knowledge, and motivations, and secure the opportunities needed for them to become self-sufficient.

Neighborhood Network for Seniors, St. Paul, will hold a Companion class on March 10The goal of the Network is to mobilize and coordinate community volunteers and health professionals to help their older neighbors stay in their homes.

Lakes and Pines Community Action Council has two upcoming Companion classes scheduled this spring. Classes will take place on April 11, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Pine City.  Another class will take place on April 12, at Lakes and Pines CAC, Mora.

The Park Bugle featured the Como Park Falcon Heights Living at Home Block Nurse Program , which helps seniors stay in their own homes while giving their caregivers a helping hand. "Caregiver support is actually a big part of what we do," said executive director, and REST Companion Lisa Kane. "Whether it is a spouse or an adult child or even a caring neighbor who is taking care of a senior, we offer a variety of services to give people a break." Read the entire article .
New York
A Train-the-Trainer course will take place on March 22-23 , at Broome County Senior Center, Endwell, through New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition . See details.
"Memory Loss - A Call to Serve," will take place on March 14 , at CareFirst, Painted Post, through the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition. During the workshop, participants will hear from members of congregations that have developed ministries to caregivers, and brainstorm on how faith communities can best meet the needs of people with memory loss and their caregivers. Upper Peninsula Commission on Area Progress (UPCAP)  conducted two Companion courses on Feb. 15 and Feb. 22, in Menominee, and on Feb. 26 and 27, in Negaunee, training a total of 10 individuals.

UPCAP will hold a Train-the-Trainer event on June 5-6, in Escanaba.  See details.
A Caregiver Lunch & Learn will take place on March 22 , at Brookwood Baptist Health, Alabaster, through the Alabama Lifespan Respite Resource Network. The event will include lunch, and information on assistive technology and other resources. 

A Companion course will take place on June 14, at the Lee Russell Council of Governments, Opelika. 

A Train-the-Trainer event will take place on July 17-18,  at the Lee Russell Council of Governments.

The 4th annual Conference on Aging will take place on June 6 , at the Cochise College Sierra Vista Campus. The conference, themed "Aging Together - The Power of Community," will include a "Virtual Dementia Tour," which allows participants to experience the effects of Alzheimer's disease, and what it is like to walk in the shoes of individuals who have the disease. A Companion training will take place on March 6-7 , through the Stanislaus County Aging & Veterans Services, Modesto. Those who complete the course can then serve the growing number of caregivers who request respite-care services through the Senior Relief Buddy Program .

The 2nd Annual Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair will take place on April 2 , at the Stanislaus Veterans Center, Modesto. The fair will offer health screenings, community vendors, prizes and education workshops, all free of charge. Details here .

Six Companions were trained on Jan. 30 , in Maui, through Na Hoaloha .
