Oceans To Orbits

2, 3 & 4 DAY STEM EXPEDITIONS!

FLORIDA'S GULF COAST TO FLORIDA'S SPACE COAST

GRADES 6-12

Oceans To Orbits Gulf Coast activities include......

A Mote Science Education Aquarium "Data In Motion" lab session, combining aquaculture, fisheries ecology, electronic monitoring, and AI. Students will engage in applied fisheries science by modeling the research methods used by scientists to sustain healthy fish populations.

Students will simulate the fish tagging process with model organisms and learn how scientists use tagging data to identify preferred habitats, track movement, and assess survival. Through hands-on practice data interpretation and scientific communication, students will gain a deeper understanding of how ecological research and technological innovation work together to support sustainable fisheries, resilient ecosystems, and communities that rely on them.

Mote is a world renown voice for ocean conservation, with 45 doctoral level research staff members and 38 national and international research locations throughout our planet.

Oceans To Orbits Space Coast activities include......

A behind-the-scenes introduction to the Kennedy Space Center and viewing of NASA's primary launch site for human spaceflight, attending an astronaut briefing, experiencing cutting-edge simulators, and more!

Activities will demonstrate to students why humans are exploring space, how space exploration impacts our lives, how we can protect Earth, and learning about the wide range of rewarding careers involving each of the STEM disciplines.

Students will be divided into small groups under the direction of an O2O facilitator, to collect data and to then present as a group, their findings and solutions to their fellow classmates. The activities are designed to be both informative and fun, for both students and teachers!

Participating teachers and students will receive pre-expedition and post-expedition "optional" assignments that may be used in class, or as extra curricular assignments, as a way of enabling students to make the most of their in-person expedition experiences... applying structure and guidance to all the STEM disciplines. O2O activities also include "case study" campus visits to receive degree orientations and prerequisites in order to learn what it will take academically to pursue their career aspirations.... regardless of where their post-secondary & career paths may take them.

FROM THE OCEANS THAT CRADLE OUR PLANET TO THE ORBITS THAT CIRCLE IT, SCIENCE AND STEWARDSHIP MUST ALWAYS TRAVEL TOGETHER.
