All middle and high school students invited to the live-streamed UP Granite Youth Conference!
The North Country Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has been hard at work getting ready the Spring UP Granite Youth Conference to be live-streamed on May 20th. Convened by NCHC’s Substance Misuse Prevention (SMP) Team, the YAC includes a panel of students from different high schools in the region and was formed to ensure that every step of the UP Conference, and other SMP initiatives geared towards youth, would be youth-led, youth-informed, and inspirational to young people in the region.
Together, the YAC chose the keynote speaker, comedian, Juston McKinney and nailed down the "Follow Your Dreams" theme, while the presentation and live streaming of UP will feature students in roles using and developing their individual talents, in front of the camera, shooting video, or contributing behind the scenes.

Certified Recovery Support Worker (CRSW) Training Series
NCHC’s four-part Certified Recovery Support Worker (CRSW) virtual training series spanning February 22 – June 11 is about halfway through. Covering the courses required to earn the CRSW credential, the series is lead/co-lead by Wellness And Recovery Model (WARM)'s Recovery Support Manager, Jenn Goulet, and prepares participants with the practical knowledge to work with individuals pursuing recovery from substance use disorders.
The third course, AIDS & Other Infectious Diseases, started on May 3rd. Recovery Coach Academy (RCA) kicked off the series in February and graduated 18 people as trained recovery coaches hailing from organizations around the region, including Weeks Medical, the Doorway at LRH, Family Resource Center, and Grafton County Drug Treatment Court of Grafton County. Coming full circle, former Wellness And Recovery Model (WARM) clients who have received support in the past through the program are now in long-term recovery as well as trained recovery coaches themselves.

Recovery-Oriented Policing Model milestones
With a Recovery Oriented Policing Model (ROPM) agreement established, WARM and the Littleton Police Department maintain ongoing training and collaboration. Via the ROPM, Littleton PD’s Administrative Assistant expanded her role to include staff recovery coach, completing all required courses to achieve CRSW credentialing.
WARM’s newest ROPM agreement with the Northumberland Police Department (NPD) now has the Department’s entire staff engaged in Recovery Coach Academy; five police officers and one administrative assistant are slated to receive CCAR Recovery Coach Academy certificates. Taking ownership of recovery-oriented policing training, the NPD has named their program GROW—or Groveton Recovery Outreach and Wellness.

Haverhill area communities "Plant the Promise"
Spring has sprung and the Haverhill area community is seeing red... Tulips, that is. As part of Red Ribbon Week in October, the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, the Haverhill Area Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition (HASMPC) took part in the “Plant the Promise” campaign, distributing tulip bulbs to community partners in anticipation of Spring blooms.
Come Spring, each red tulip that has sprouted represents a promise to stay drug-free, and the beauty of life when it is.
HASMPC thanks community partners for helping to"Plant the Promise" to remain drug-free in the Haverhill area communities: Grafton County Nursing Home, Haverhill Recreation Department, North Haverhill Agway, Woodsville Business and Beautification Committee.

Public Health Network partners pivot from mobile clinics to support other areas of vaccination including schools
The Public Health Network (PHN) has stayed busy through Spring with COVID-19 Vaccination efforts. January through April, PHN partners kept pace with the State of New Hampshire’s rollout of phases to help distribute the initial available vaccine supply to the region by providing mobile clinics for healthcare and first responder frontline workers, corrections staff, as well as our most vulnerable populations, including the medically vulnerable, elderly, homebound residents, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Clinics for teachers/childcare workers were completed through March and COVID vaccination is now open to all NH residents 12 and older. Hospital and healthcare partners stepped up and have largely taken on these clinics.
North Country PHN partners administer 5,600+ COVID shots
The North Country Public Health Network (PHN) and regional partners have provided a total of 5,620 COVID-19 vaccinations via mobile clinics from January - April, 2021. Thanks to PHN partners: 45th Parallel EMS/Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital, Littleton Fire & Rescue, Gorham Fire & EMS, Lancaster Fire & EMS, Woodsville EMS, and our Northern NH Medical Reserve Corps volunteers!

4 NCHC Community Health Workers trained to lead Chronic Disease & Chronic Pain Self-Management courses
Across our Community Health programs, Ways2Wellness CONNECT and WARM (Wellness And Recovery Model), NCHC now boasts four Community Health Workers on staff who are cross-trained to co-lead two evidence-based Stanford University curriculums, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) and Chronic Pain Self-Management Program (CPSMP).
These two workshop series provide an interactive social-support-oriented group for participants to gain the practical skills and confidence needed to thrive living with a chronic disease, such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, and asthma, or chronic pain.
While each NCHC team member completed the Leader training for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at different times, all four finished the cross-training to also lead the Chronic Pain Self-Management course at the end of April, and now all are trained to lead both Chronic Disease and Chronic Pain courses online or in person.

AskPETRA launches North Country Recovers Together initiative
The AskPETRA team has kicked off North Country Recovers Together by hosting a live interactive event on April 6th called Backroads to Recovery: We Can Get There From Here. Held virtually and facilitated by NH Listens, the event brought to the table stakeholders from across the region representing roles and providers of all stripes in SUD and recovery-oriented services and supports as well as lived experience in recovery. Living in the North Country, taking backroads to get from one point to another is rooted in daily life. This was the premise behind the event, and to share backroads. In other words, make connections within the field while identifying areas of collaboration.
Attendees of NCHC's April 6 virtual event, Backroads to Recovery: We Can Get There from Here! participated in a series of interactive activities to connect and identify areas of collaboration between each other’s services and resources for SUD recovery.
Looking beyond the April event, the North Country Recovers Together (NCRT) initiative aims to improve service delivery and outcomes for Substance Use Disorders in the North Country by fostering a greater recovery community. All individuals and sectors of Northern Grafton and Coos communities interested in being part of a regional recovery solution are welcome to join.
If you would like to get involved, contact North Country Health Consortium SUD Program Coordinator, Jean Adie: jadie@nchcnh.org.
