Pastor's Points: Easter Fools for Christ

Happy Easter! Happy April Fools' Day! I came across some statistics recently about the convergence of these two days.

Since 1700, 318 years ago, Easter has fallen on April 1 only 11 times! The last time Christians celebrated Easter on April 1 was in 1956. The next time this will happen will be in 2029 and 2040, it will then not be observed April 1 for another 68 years-2108. The next time after that will be in 2170.

April Fools' Day is meant to be a day when we play a prank on someone who is gullible or who has forgotten that the calendar has passed from March to April.  I read recently where the BBC once broadcast a short documentary in a current affairs series purporting to show Swiss farmers picking freshly grown spaghetti in what they called the Swiss Spaghetti Harvest. The BBC was later flooded with requests to purchase a spaghetti plant, forcing them to declare the film a hoax on the news the next day.

Maybe what we can take from this April Fools' Easter Sunday is the image of being a fool for Christ.

Furthering Our Mission Update

In the coming weeks, there will be a formal update in the bulletin and More News and Links from Fr. Scott about our South Campus Project regarding the work with our architect, civil
engineer and the process for the needed permissions with the Town of Chapel
Hill.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Furthering Our Mission campaign. Through the generosity of parishioners, $1.678M has been pledged to this important initiative.  If you have not yet had the chance to make a contribution toward Furthering Our Mission , please visit the Parish Website to do so.

comeandseeCome and See Retreat Returns in May!

Come and See, STM's premier spiritual retreat, returns the weekend of May 18- 20 in the Friends and Family Hall. Check out our new video and follow us on Twitter. Space for this popular retreat is limited, so register today.

Can you tell me more about the Retreat?
The Gospel is proclaimed to Retreat participants through a series of personal testimonies during which people share their stories of faith, which are reflected upon in small groups.

Is there a cost for the Retreat?
There is no fee for the Retreat, but a free-will offering taken up during the retreat to cover the cost of food and other expenses.  The suggested donation is $50.

What about Mass during the Retreat?
The retreat participants participate in the regular Sunday Mass at 9:15AM.

Do I need to attend every day of the Retreat?
Yes; full attendance is required because the Retreat moves and develops throughout the weekend.  If you are unable to attend the full retreat, we recommend that you wait until the next one is offered.

Is child care provided?
We are unable to offer child care during this Retreat.
