Honoring Earth Day

Ocean Knoll members beautified their school campus in observance of Earth Day by picking up trash: showing that everybody can make a difference with just a "litter" bit of effort.

Getting "Buggy" During Bug Club

Did you know that ladybugs are in the beetle family? They are not bugs at all!

Our Allred Clubhouse members learned this and so much more as they studied the fantastical flyers these past few weeks. They even built 2 terrariums that would serve as the short-term home for their new bug friends, creating an optimal habitat. On the last day of Bug Club, members took a field trip to our Griset Garden to release their ladybugs. The kids had an awesome time with this collaboration!

Robosoccer With Robotics

Our La Colonia Robotics Club members received hands-on experience with engineering and programming thanks to the awesome STEM2Leaf volunteers. Students were tasked with programming their robots and creating a remote control to operate their respective machines. The lesson culminated with the kids forming teams and using their robots to pass and score goals on the "field" in a friendly game of Robosoccer.

Sheriff's Department Gives Back

Our La Colonia members got a sneak peek at what it means to be a law enforcement agent with the Sheriff’s Department. After watching a presentation, the kids were able to play with drones, watch a K-9 presentation, and watch a Sheriff's helicopter land.

The Sheriff’s Department ended the experience with the donation of 50 bikes to the youth from our community.

This event was a collaboration between our La Colonia Clubhouse, La Colonia Foundation, the City of Solana Beach, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Asking Questions About Robots

Our Robotics Club members at Polster enjoyed a hands-on presentation with large robots.

Members saw first-hand the practical application robots can have in our daily lives as they played catch with the robots and asked questions to the programmers and learned about coding.

"I love learning and discovering new things,

and I love sharing that with others. Teaching English for a year after college was a great experience, and I always wanted to be a teacher. I'm very grateful to have found a way to help the community by doing something that I enjoy. It means so much to me and I hope that I can do more to contribute."
