CAPTAIN'S CORNER
Written by Captain Kevin Deerman
Well, the rain keeps coming and winds keep blowing. That pretty much sums up the last two months on the Texas coast. We did finally have a break in the weather this past weekend and with a good number of other boats we were able to take advantage of it. The seas were calm for the most part and air temps made it very comfortable to be out but most of all the fish were biting. The Yellowfin Tuna have shown back up in big numbers after disappearing toward the end of summer and there are still a few Blue Marlin around from what we saw as well as reports from other boats that were out. The long range forecast isn't looking good for getting back right now but on the bright side we have duck and deer season kicking off this weekend. Good luck to everyone headed to the ranch or the marsh this weekend.
Another FUN FISHING DAY is in the books as a complete success!

Children from the Ronald McDonald House and Shriners Children's Hospital along with Club volunteers enjoyed a beautiful morning fishing at the Pelican Rest Marina on October 13th. Tons of fish were caught and smiles were abundant!

We would like to thank each and every volunteer, donor and sponsor who made the Fun Fishing Day possible!

THE LEARNING CURVE
Written by Captain Troy Day
In a fisheries world where most things seem to be tightening up on the regulation side of things, it is refreshing to see even a few go in our favor. For next fishing season, NOAA is increasing the incidental recreational trophy quota in the Gulf of Mexico by 0.3 metric tons. Doesn't seem significant, but that works out to 661 lbs, which is what they consider one fish. So, we'll get one more incidentally caught bluefin in the Gulf next year. This incidental quota is something The Billfish Foundation has successfully advocated for us to get and keep, it's good to see TBF not only work to conserve billfish populations, but also maximize our fishing opportunities.
