The Red Fern Festival is happening
April 29th and 30th, 2022
Vendor registration is now open!
The Wilson Rawls novel “Where the Red Fern Grows” was set in the Ozark hills in and around Tahlequah Oklahoma. The novel tells the tale of an adventurous young boy who saves his money to travel to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to purchase two red-bone hound hunting dogs. The first film was made in 1974 and featured many locals from the Tahlequah community and surrounding areas and was remade in 2003, both filmed in and around the Tahlequah area. It’s only fitting that Tahlequah host the Red Fern Festival.

We want to take a minute to recognize one of our Community Partners. Not only are Bob Ed and Julie Culver financial supporters of the TMSA program they are always happy to jump in and volunteer at Downtown Tahlequah events whenever needed. They truly understand the TMSA mission and take pride in their community. Thank you Bob Ed and Julie for joining us in our pursuit of revitalization!
"Julie and I believe it takes many people working together to better our community. We need: to support our community financially; volunteer; participate in events that are offered, and spread the word about all Tahlequah and Cherokee County have to offer to Oklahoma and beyond. We hope to "see you downtown"!"
-Bob Ed Culver

A strong organizational foundation is key for a sustainable Main Street revitalization effort. This can take many forms, from a standalone non-profit organization, to a special assessment district, to a program housed in a municipality or existing community development entity. Regardless of the organizational type, the focus is on ensuring that all organizational resources (partners, funding, volunteers, etc.) are mobilized to effectively implement the Community Transformative Strategies.

"For the past 25 years, the businesses on Main Street have played a part in all of the important milestones in my life. At 15, my very first job was a waitress at the Shack Cafe on Main Street. My afternoons in high school were spent at the Redmen Shop and Coney Island (Vidalia's). My time at NSU was spent equally between the NSU Playhouse and Granny's Attic. My engagement ring was purchased from Meigs Jewelry and my child's first pair of tennis shoes came from Felt's shoes. My role as the TMSA Director gives me the opportunity to give back to the community that has always been there for me."
