The Red Fern Festival is almost here!!!
April 29th and 30th, 2022
The Wilson Rawls novel “Where the Red Fern Grows” was set in the Ozark hills in and around Tahlequah Oklahoma. The novel tells the tale of an adventurous young boy who saves his money to travel to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to purchase two red-bone hound hunting dogs. The first film was made in 1974 and featured many locals from the Tahlequah community and surrounding areas and was remade in 2003, both filmed in and around the Tahlequah area. It’s only fitting that Tahlequah host the Red Fern Festival.

"Brianna Cook started volunteering for TMSA in 2021. Since then, she has volunteered in many different facets for TMSA including Ladies Night Out, Holiday Design, and banner switch-out days. She will also be joining us for the Red Fern Festival.
Brianna is a hard-working, personable, and fun. She is always willing to jump in wherever needed. TMSA volunteers logged close to 2,000 volunteer hours in 2021, without reliable volunteers like Brianna we simply couldn't accomplish our goals throughout the year." - Jamie Hale, TMSA Director

"I volunteer with Tahlequah Main Street because I love my hometown. I feel a personal responsibility to help create the Tahlequah I want my kids to live in. There's nothing quite like seeing the place you love thriving, and when I look back, I'll know that I helped foster that life." - Brianna Cook

Promoting Main Street takes many forms, but the ultimate goal is to position the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and the hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases a community’s unique characteristics. This can be done through highlighting cultural traditions, celebrating and preserving important architecture and history, encouraging local businesses to market cooperatively, offering coordinated specials and sales, and hosting special events aimed at changing perceptions of the district and communicating to residents, investors, businesses, and property-owners that this place is special.

"For the past 25 years, the businesses on Main Street have played a part in all of the important milestones in my life. At 15, my very first job was a waitress at the Shack Cafe on Main Street. My afternoons in high school were spent at the Redmen Shop and Coney Island (Vidalia's). My time at NSU was spent equally between the NSU Playhouse and Granny's Attic. My engagement ring was purchased from Meigs Jewelry and my child's first pair of tennis shoes came from Felt's shoes. My role as the TMSA Director gives me the opportunity to give back to the community that has always been there for me."
