Our very own Stephanie Morgareidge was named the 2025 Concrete Citizen of the Year! In addition to her nearly 10 years of service with United General District 304 as coordinator for the Concrete Resource Coalition, facilitator for family programs, American Red Cross CPR instructor, and now Supervisor of Community & Professional Education, she has continuously supported her community through her volunteerism and advocacy.
As US Army Veteran, it’s not surprising that Stephanie’s heart of service continues to shine brightly and make an impact. She was presented the award by the new mayor of Concrete and shared:
“Whether it’s leading our local Girls Scout troop, serving on a board, or pitching in to make events successful, I love that I can give back to my community and support our youth in so many ways!”

Join us for a lunchtime listening session this week to share your ideas as we develop and implement a fatherhood program for Skagit County through a new federal grant.
We’re in the planning stage and want to hear from school staff, early-learning professionals, and any community partners who regularly work with families! Your input will help ensure we're collaborating effectively to support families and fathers. Light refreshments will be provided, but feel free to bring your lunch along to this interactive hour!

| | | Coming Soon - Toddler Time | |
Since launching in 2024, our weekly Play & Grow groups have been building community between parents and supporting the healthy development of babies in Skagit County. Growing up right alongside the children we serve, we’re excited to launch the next phase of groups by offering programming for parents & caregivers with children aged 1-2!
Beginning March 3, the Play & Grow Toddler group will meet on Tuesdays from 9:30-10:30 am at the Heartwood House on the hospital district campus and feature free play, songs, and story time - no registration required.
| | | A ❤️ for Youth Who Are Grieving | | Service in Action at Sedro-Woolley Farm to School | | Maitea Cox - AmeriCorps VISTA | | |
Winter isn’t usually an active time for school gardens, but a lot is happening behind the scenes for Sedro-Woolley Farm to School (SW F2S)! This January, we welcomed AmeriCorps member Maitea Cox to our team. As a Volunteer In Service To America (VISTA), Maitea joins us full time for one year to build capacity for Farm to School and combat poverty in our community through service.
Adele Eslinger, longtime Program Coordinator for SW F2S, first joined us as a VISTA and has helped grow the youth-led initiatives and garden & cooking classes available across the school district.
Key plans for Adele and Maitea this year are rebuilding the F2S Advisory Board and identifying resources & partners to sustain and grow programming. If you’d like to get involved, contact Adele.Eslinger@UnitedGeneral.org.
| | Little Hands, Big Flavors | | Before winter break, 140 students from transitional kindergarten through second grade in Concrete had the opportunity to spend time in the Farm to School kitchen making healthy meals together and tasting their creations. From tearing kale into bite-sized pieces for Caesar salad, all the way through washing dishes after enjoying Three Sisters’ Stew, even the littlest hands were involved in kitchen duties. | | | | Bouquet Share Subscriptions Available Soon! | |
Concrete Farm to School will once again offer student-crafted bouquets to their amazing donors! In addition to the option for eight weeks of fresh flowers in July/August, options for spring and fall seasonal bouquets (like the one pictured here) will also be available.
More information and the link to sign up will be shared widely in March. If you want to be among the first to know, sign up for the Concrete Farm to School Newsletter!

| | | Board Leadership Updates: Gratitude and New Beginnings | | Since votes were finalized in November 2025, we’ve welcomed the return of Commissioner Debra Lancaster and newest member, Ellen de Jong, to Skagit County Public Hospital District No. 304’s Board of Commissioners. Through public, non-partisan elections, commissioners serve on the governing body of the hospital district and are responsible for collectively overseeing the district’s policies and organization with respect to the operation. As we look forward to the new year and current Board leadership, we also want to gratefully acknowledge the more than 21 years of service and strong community advocacy provided by outgoing Commissioner Robert (Bob) Stanley. | | |
Thank you, Bob, for all your contributions and welcome to Commissioners de Jong and Lancaster!
