RANGER CHECKPOINT

October 2024

Editor: Molly Stringham

A Message from the Chairman:

Fellow Rangers –

First, I hope that this edition of the Ranger Checkpoint finds all of you doing extremely well.

This month, on October 4th, the foundation’s leadership had the opportunity to present three pavers removed from the Ranger Memorial to the Drummer Boy Museum in Andersonville, Georgia. In what was a first-class ceremony with participation of re-enactors from both sides of the Civil War, we presented Colonel John Mosby and the Bowman Brothers’ pavers to the museum for safekeeping and display for all to see. I want to thank the Drummer Boy Museum, the city of Andersonville and Sumter County, Georgia for hosting the foundation and the ceremony. Also, thanks to all those Rangers who came out to attend.

This month, we also welcome a new member of our Board of Directors, Mr. John Nethercutt. John spent his life serving our nation both in and out of uniform and we are excited to have him join the team. He will serve as your foundation’s treasurer moving forward.

It is great to see your foundation out and about working to further the cause of remembering and honoring all Rangers, past, present and future. In the last month, the foundation was present at the Maneuver Warfighting Conference and the AUSA Annual Meeting. If you know of any venues, celebrations, etc. where the Ranger Memorial Foundation can continue to tell our story, please reach out to us.

As always, when at or near FT Moore, please remember to stop by YOUR Ranger Memorial and see the improvements we continue to make.

As we operate solely on donations, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support our mission and initiatives at National Ranger Memorial Foundation Donation. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for the Ranger community.

Rangers Lead the Way!

Larry Burris

Brigadier General, US Army (Retired)

Earlier this month, the Foundation and Andersonville GA Drummer Boy Museum proudly co-hosted a dedication ceremony for 3 of 4 Ranger pavers that were removed from the Ranger Memorial last year. In his comments, NRMF Chairman Burris remarked, "...In keeping with that mission, today, we are here to recognize three Rangers from our past. These three Rangers' pavers were removed last year from the National Ranger Memorial on Fort Moore, Georgia. Two of those Rangers are Rangers George and Jackson Bowman. The third is Colonel John Singleton Mosby."

Many thanks to those who participated in and attended this fantastic event! Read more about the dedication ceremony from The Americus Times Recorder and view a gallery of images of the ceremony and reenactment events from Toni Anderson Studios.

Calling all Rangers and Friends of the Rangers!

The Federal Court hearing, regarding our lawsuit aimed at restoring Colonel John S. Mosby's rightful place in the Ranger Hall of Fame at the National Ranger Memorial, will be on 12 December at the U.S. District Court in Columbus, GA.

Your presence is pivotal in preserving our shared history, and we hope you can join us! Together we can work to ensure that the valor and contributions of Colonel Mosby and Rangers of ALL eras are remembered and respected now and in the future.
