HBA Members-
It’s hard to believe we are already preparing for November and stores are putting out Christmas stuff but I guess "time flies when you've been living in a pandemic"! Given the circumstances we have managed to have a pretty solid year in 2020 and many lives were changed right here in Abilene because of your hearts and generosity through the many ways you have enabled us to give back to our community.
We still have the Strikes Against Hunger Bowling Tournament coming up on November 5th. Remember, the proceeds from this event go directly to the Christian Service Center for their increased food pantry needs over the course of the holiday season. The tournament is just about sold out, but if you are unable to bowl with us and would still like to donate to this event, we ask that you join us on Thursday November 5th with a $5 dollar donation. We will feed you pizza, provide the cold beverages and show you a fun time.
We will officially put a wrap on 2020 with our last Association Event of the year. The Annual Christmas "Fiesta" will be held on Friday December 4th at the 201 Mesquite Event Venue. The Christmas Party is always a well-attended event. This year we will be offering a fajita dinner and 2 complimentary drink tickets for each HBA Member and their guest. The band is sure to provide a good time and we look forward to honoring some of our awesome members for their contributions to the HBA over the course of this year. Be sure to bring a coat or blanket for our annual drive to benefit the Abilene Love & Care Ministries. This Association thrives on helping those who are less fortunate and I know this year will be no different. Adios 2020 ... you've been a real pain in a lot of rears and we are truly looking forward to 2021 with this amazing group of members and friends.
Looking towards the future, I do see a day where anyone who plans on building in Abilene or the Big Country will make one of their first priorities to join the BCHBA. The mission statement for the BCHBA is “To Protect and Promote the Building Industry”. In order for us to protect, we must first promote. As we finish the year, I want to encourage all members to continue to PROMOTE this association to others that may not know its value. Be prepared to share your experience and why it is important for each of us to be involved. Unified as one we can grow our numbers, make a larger impact, and proved a louder voice when needed.
This month many of your HBA Board Members and builders will be traveling to Austin, TX for our fall Texas Association of Builders board meetings to discuss many important issues. This series of meetings will be the ONLY meetings we have been able to attend all year due to COVID-19. I highly anticipate that we will have a lot of work, growing and learning to do in our time there. (with our masks on of course) and we are Thankful to the TAB staff for making sure we are able to attend these "in person meetings" to finish off the year.
Thank you again for your continued support of the Big Country HBA! Let’s finish this year strong and roll into 2021 with a head of steam. I am personally thankful (Thanksgiving month) for each and every member of this association. It is because of YOU that we are able to continue our mission and association programs.
Regards,
Lucas Gibbs
Big Country HBA President
