We are excited to announce the return of the Club's annual FUN FISHING DAY!

The special event will be held on October the 13th at Buddy and Marita Schultz' beautiful PELICAN REST MARINA in Galveston!

Club volunteers will spend their morning fishing with the children from the Ronald McDonald House and Shriners Children's Hospital, teaching them how to cast their lines and reel in their winning catches!  The children will be treated to a tasty lunch prepared and donated by Sean Welsh and the COOL COOKERS, followed by gourmet popsicles donated by FRIOS GOURMET POPS in Galveston.  Each young angler will also receive a participation trophy plus a selection of everyday necessities that they can use while living at the Ronald McDonald House donated by BAY LTD.

SUPPORT THE FUN FISHING DAY!

SPONSORSHIP: Sponsor the Fun Fishing Day!  If you are interested in becoming an event sponsor, please contact the Club at 409-744-2307 / [email protected] for sponsorship details.

DONATIONS: The Club is accepting donations for the Ronald McDonald House.  Paper goods, toiletries, non-perishable food, new clothing and shoes and monetary donations are extremely helpful to the families.

VOLUNTEER: We are looking for smiling, happy, and enthusiastic people who love children and who want to make sure that our young guests enjoy their FUN FISHING DAY.  If that description fits you, call the Club to see how you can get involved in this very special event.

Captain's Corner

The Blue Marlin bite in Texas this summer has been nothing short of incredible. The bite at Diana was probably the best that I can ever remember with over 45 fish caught in a period of 5 weeks. Guys that were fishing the shelf and dink bait fishing to the south were also getting more shots at Blues mixed in with the Whites and Sails, which also made for an above average year for grand slams as well. Its starting to get to the end of our season but as of this past week they were still biting and as long as the weather conditions allow, I am sure those Blue Marlin numbers will continue to rise.
The Learning Curve

The most popular discussion topic on the docks this season has been the use of sonar. The new scanning sonar is a different (and more costly) beast than the older searchlight sonar, which a few boats have had for years. Furuno's CSH8LMK2 sends a constant omnidirectional beam around the boat, giving real-time imagery to the captain in contrast with the older CH250/500 units, which scan a 6 degree beam around the boat, similar to a radar. Furuno's page does a good job explaining:  SONAR

With some of the numbers and fishing success on boats with sonar, it's not hard to understand why some owners choose to purchase the equipment.  On the other hand, there have been plenty of fish caught (and tournaments won) on boats without sonar too. It doesn't seem like fishing is slowing down anytime soon, and there is still some good weather to be had, see y'all out there....
Club Awards Program
The Club's 2018 Yearlong Awards Program Tournament is coming to a close in a few short months and it looks like it is going to be a close battle in several divisions!
