Dear MVCDC Supporter,

We have so much great news to share!

The school year has ended for the children and families participating in our part-year programs that operate during the school calendar. But we’re still supporting over 600 infants and toddlers attending our Early Head Start programs and 479 preschoolers whose families are working outside the home or attending school.

Starting this month, we’ll be adding new infant and toddler seats — that’s the biggest unmet need in our community. We’re hiring teachers, and we invite you to refer job candidates to us. We offer competitive early education salaries — we’ve just instituted raises! — and our benefits package is excellent!

Gratefully,

Have you seen Lincoln Hill lately?

Our new $12 million early learning center is rapidly taking shape, and it’s going to be beautiful!

Very soon this new East Dayton anchor will be open for 250 young children. We can’t wait to welcome them, we hope, yet this year, or early in 2025.

Our partners at Lincoln Hill include:

  • East End Community Services
  • The Mission of Mary Cooperative
  • And the University of Dayton

This exciting investment is made possible with generous funding from:

  • The National Office of Head Start
  • The Dayton City Commission
  • Montgomery County’s Commissioners
  • Preschool Promise
  • And The Dayton Foundation

Thank you to all of them.

We’re still celebrating our 2nd Annual Reading Challenge

This is the second year we’ve had a Reading Challenge, where we invite classrooms to welcome fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and other male figures to visit an MVCDC classroom and read to our young learners.

Athletes from the Wright State University Basketball Team came, and Springfield School Superintendent Dr. Bob Hill also joined the children.

Did you see us at the Dragons game?

We celebrated the end of the school year on May 16 with the Dayton Dragons. They were wonderful hosts, and we loved being recognized on the Jumbotron.

We were loud and proud in our MVCDC tee shirts!

Our staff are committed to being the best

Thirteen MVCDC staff recently earned a CDA – Child Development Associate credential.

This training is important in creating quality classrooms. The staff members completed 120 hours of training across 8 content areas. They attended classes on Saturdays, studying and committing to becoming even stronger Difference Makers!

We are so proud of their accomplishments!

Our Family Support Specialists are awesome

Six Family Support Specialists (FSSs) have earned a Family Development Credential, completing a national program requiring that they spend 80 hours in training and successfully pass a test about their knowledge around supporting families. Our inaugural class was supported by Coaches Mark Augusten, Jamie Smith and Kandy Simison, who helped the FSSs improve their skills around helping families set and reach goals.

Thank you, Springfield Museum of Art

The Springfield Museum of Art recently hosted Clark County Difference Makers in enjoying the museum’s art and making some of their own. The experience was a great way to end the year together and recharge in a beautiful and inspiring space.
