TALK ABOUT TORAH,
CURRENT EVENTS,
and MORE

We are most fortunate to welcome Rabbi Zvi Kahn, an Orthodox rabbi and educator, along with our Rabbi Barry Silver.

A most fascinating hour where we attempt to unite and undo the denomination barriers in place in Judaism today and bring intellect, reason and open dialogue into play. Enjoy hearing about the upcoming portion of the Torah from both Rabbis, one Orthodox and one progressive. This is most insightful! Other discussion about Judaism, Israel, and current events happening today may follow. Join us for this hour of friendly discussion.

Presentation:
THE SWARMING BEHAVIOR
OF ANIMALS
& THE INFLUENCE ON
SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY,
AND BUSINESS
Geoff Kashdan

SUNDAY, JANUARY 17 at 4:00 pm
LIVE on COMPUTER or PHONE
This will be a very interesting presentation of what humans have learned and applied from the swarming behaviors shown within the animal kingdom, such as birds flying in formation, bees creating honey, to name a few.

All kinds of animals swarm, sometimes in the tens of millions. The swarm itself functions as a single organism, able to achieve complex tasks absent of any individual giving directions and without any attempt to organize the work of the swarm members. Scientific studies of the algorithms of this swarm intelligence has informed advances in artificial computer intelligence, factory and distribution networks, search and rescue technology, self-driving vehicles, and all sorts of other applications.

In this presentation, the basic principles of swarm intelligence are introduced, examples of swarm behavior in the animal world are shown, and, finally, many applications of swarm theory to humans are exhibited.

You won't want to miss this wonderful session by Geoff Kashdan, retired educator, former college instructor, and school administrator!

The Zoom link and information will be shared on Friday, January 15's Voice email newsletter and on our website.
THE BLESSING OF OUR PETS
(and Hebrew Naming)
Rabbi Barry Silver

SUNDAY, JANUARY 24 at 4:00 pm
LIVE on COMPUTER or PHONE
Bring your dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, or whatever into your Zoom Room with you! Rabbi Barry will bless our animals and provide a Hebrew Name, if desired.

This won't be in-person, but will be the next closest and safest thing ... online via Zoom. We will go around the Zoom Room and allow each to introduce themselves and their pets. This should be a FUN and NEW experience for all of us!
Don't miss it!

The Zoom link and information will be shared prior to the date of this event, both within the Voice email newsletter and on our website.

MI SHEBEIRACH HEALING PRAYERS:

We wish healing to all those who suffered, are suffering, or who have lost a loved one from the vicious attack on our nation's Capitol this past week. May our country begin to heal and repair itself from this horrible act of violence and may we soon see peace in America.

We keep those on our healing list (and those not listed) in our thoughts and good wishes, so that they may know and experience a complete and full recovery to good health, a Refuah Schlema.

To those on the frontlines, caring for our loved ones and many, many others, we wish them good health and the strength to provide the love and the care to those in need.

Please let us know of someone who should also be included in our Healing List, as well as those who are now recovered and should be taken off from our list (please contact our office at 561-968-0688).

Word of Mouth is our
BEST SOURCE of ADVERTISING!

HERE'S an EASY thing for each of us to do:

FORWARD our VOICE email newsletter to one or two friends and/or tell one or two friends about L'DOR VA-DOR.

Congregation L'Dor Va-Dor is here for YOU NOW and WILL CONTINUE TO BE HERE FOR YOU! We will continue to be a place where you can enjoy Shabbat, holidays, High Holy Days, and more, as we have been for over 23 years!

We look forward to a new year with hope and optimism. Even after the pandemic is over (we hope soon), even after we have relocated to a new sanctuary, we will continue to offer virtual programming for those unable to get out. We will continue to be a place of worship and MORE for ALL our members, friends, and guests!

Please check out the wonderful items and objet d'art we have available for sale within the L'DOR VA-DOR GIFT SHOP. You can click on the gold button below to review the gift shop articles. All can be purchased using a credit card and/or check. We thank you to those who have purchased some of our merchandise. Thank you for your support!
To meet our goal of uniting Jews of different backgrounds, beliefs, and denominations, we have added more traditional Shabbat morning services which we will hold once per month for now. Our next ones will be on the last Shabbat of January and February (Jan.30 and Feb.27). Please SHARE this special news with others, so that we can get the WORD OUT! These services will be held on Zoom and will be in addition to our Friday evening pre-recorded services.

If you missed this special first morning service held on December 26 but would like to watch all or some of it, please click on the link listed below to see what it was like:

Please help to support our vendors who advertise with us. We have a new business, SENIORS HELPING SENIORS (see their card at the very bottom of this VOICE email) that can provide needed services to seniors. Check them out!

If you know of a business who would like to advertise within our email newsletter, please have them contact our office at 561-968-0688 or email to INFO@LDORVADOR.org for more information.

Wishing that all be healthy, stay safe and that we are able to receive the vaccines for COVID-19 very shortly (without having to wait in unimaginable lines)!

May you have a PEACEFUL week, filled with good memories and times and may we all experience SHALOM!

    With Shalom,
     Sharon Leibovitz
