How's your Balancing Act?

"Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony." ~Thomas Merton

Any Libra's in the house?  Your sign is the scale, which signifies balance. I'm not sure how much that "signage" plays into a balanced life, but I do know that the more balanced you might feel, you're probably feeling more freedom.  For me, and in my work, I am often reminded that what works for some people does not necessarily work for others.  Or one person's idea of balance may not constitute anything remotely balanced from another person's perspective.  I, for one can easily find myself completely unbalanced when overwhelmed by the internal or the external.  Holding onto a sense of balance can be quite the challenge.

"Break a Sweat"

4 Reasons to Break a Sweat Your body has a natural, powerful, built-in system for detoxification that doesn't require trendy juice cleanses or expensive protocols. All you must do is sweat!

Doctors, health experts, and fitness gurus tell us that we should break a sweat every day - and for good reason. While sweating has a host of benefits simply because it's a result of health-boosting exercise, the act of sweating itself heals the body as well. Whether you're sitting in a sauna, walking on a warm day, or working out, sweating is a necessary bodily function with powerful healing effects.

Specifically, more studies are emerging lauding the detoxifying abilities of sweat. By clearing out a range of toxins, from persistent organic pollutants (POPs) to heavy metals, sweat plays an essential role in your body's natural detox function. Let's look at some of the toxins that are cleared from your body when you sweat:

Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness Month has been held every April, since 1992.

During this annual thirty day period, health care professionals and health promotion experts across the country will join forces to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic.

Sponsored by The Health Resource Network (HRN), a non-profit health education organization, Stress Awareness Month is a national, cooperative effort to inform people about the dangers of stress, successful coping strategies, and harmful misconceptions about stress that are prevalent in our society.

Stress Management Tips

"Stress, in addition to being itself, was also the cause of itself, and the result of itself."
- Hans Selye

Just as stress is different for each of us there is no stress reduction strategy that is a panacea. Jogging and other aerobic exercises, different types of meditation, prayer, yoga and tai chi are great for many people but when arbitrarily imposed on others, prove dull, boring and stressful. There is certainly no shortage of stress relievers and in addition to the above, various progressive muscular relaxation exercises, autogenic training, deep breathing, massage therapies, visual imagery and self-hypnosis practices are popular.

Rosacea Awareness Month

The National Rosacea Society (NRS) designates April as Rosacea Awareness Month to educate the public on the impact of this chronic and widespread facial disorder now estimated to affect more than 16 million Americans. The goal of Rosacea Awareness Month is to spread public education on this disease so that more people who may have rosacea seek medical help before it gets worse, and so those whose lives are affected can find greater public acceptance and understanding.

How to Create a Game Plan for Your Goals

Want to reach your goals? Start with small changes.  We all have objectives we want to hit. This includes our personal goals and our goals for our companies. Unfortunately, most of us never draw up a roadmap for how we are going to reach our targets. When we look at why this is, it usually comes from being overly ambitious. We think we can just change everything at once, so we don't need a step-by-step game plan. This is often why we don't succeed. Changing your complete way of life is tough, and doing it all at once is a sure road to failure. Instead, try this approach:

Sustainable Tourism ~ What's the Future of Sustainable Travel

Sustainable tourism has become one of the biggest trends in tourism. People are looking to minimize their impact, hoping to find places that make for memorable vacations and where they can make a difference and show their respect for local cultures. Fortunately, several places are more than willing to open their doors.

What is sustainable tourism?
Sustainable tourism is a form of eco-tourism. The point is to leave as small a footprint as possible while at the same time supporting local culture. This is a natural outgrowth of the "pack it in, pack it out" philosophy but carried to another extreme. Here the tourist is actively concerned about his environmental impact. Given the harm that people have done to the environment, it is understandable that people are worried about the environment and their carbon footprint. This is especially relevant in places which are threatened due to global warming and from being so popular with tourists.
