Is Wellness the New Luxury?

Is well-being and living a healthy lifestyle a luxury? .......We certainly think so!

And that is why we are so focused on spreading this message throughout the spa community. The term "wellness" has been interpreted in many ways. Although there are numerous views on what defines wellness or how we incorporate living well into our daily lives, as an integral part of the spa industry and as leaders in health and well-being, we share many varieties and models of wellness. Some would say it's a cognizant, self-guiding and evolving process toward a healthier lifestyle or a multidimensional and holistic way of embracing mental and spiritual well-being.  Wellness is an active process of making choices that help us become more aware of and in tune with a healthier and improved existence - both physically and spiritually.
 
As spa front-runners we know this, but how do we communicate this message?  And do we actually walk the talk??

Tammy Mugavero is a Certified and Licensed Athletic Trainer who began her professional career in 1992 with Lee Memorial Health System (now LeeHealth).  In August of 2000, she started with the Bonita Bay Club, bringing with her years of experience in rehabilitation and sport-specific programming.

Mental Health Awareness Month
 
Since 1949, May has been observed as National Mental Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to bring about greater awareness of psychological health concerns and conditions, to offer support for those who are living with these conditions, and to promote increased access to care and treatment. This month, the Military Health System, as well as agencies and leaders across the Defense Department (DoD) are emphasizing the importance of mental health and sharing mental health resources available to our military communities.

Th ere are few plants that have generated as much controversy as cannabis, which became part of the national lexicon with the recent legalization of marijuana in AK, CA, CO, ME, MA, NV, OR, WA, and Washington, D.C. While the plant is often associated with the mood-altering drug, it is also used in a less trippy fashion for fuel, clothing, food, medicine, and even skincare.

Male Massage Therapist Bias

Regardless of how far we think our society has come in overcoming sexual discrimination, massage therapy professionals know otherwise. Not only are men a clear minority in this business, they also may have a harder time booking legitimate bodywork appointments. This inequity between the sexes may discourage some males from pursuing a livelihood in massage therapy. However, those with drive can take several steps to prevail over the public's gender bias and enjoy a successful, rewarding career.

A sweet, tangy and salty mixture of soy sauce, rice vi negar and honey does double-duty as marinade and sauce. Toasted sesame seeds provide a nutty and attractive accent. Make it a meal: Serve with brown rice and sautéed red peppers and zucchini slices.
