Letter from the CEO

Krystin Albert; RN, BSN

As we ring in the new year, let us take a moment to reflect on the past year and celebrate all that was accomplished as well as all that was lost. Then let’s choose to make 2025 a year of personal growth. Whether you start a new job that offers a better work life balance, or you move to a new state for a fresh start, change can be positive and rewarding. Adjust your outlook on the new year and focus on the positives that lie ahead. Instead of making “resolutions” make a personal promise to be kind to others, exercise more, take that trip you’ve been putting off, show compassion to all people, work hard for what you want, and to live your best life.

Franklin VNA and Hospice has been very busy setting up educational trainings in the community on ways to live healthier lifestyles, keep our bodies moving and preventing falls, and being proactive with completing Advanced Care Directives are just a few of the hot topics you will see. There is something for everyone. We are continuing to provide monthly Blood Pressure clinics in many towns and starting this year, we will also be hosting blood pressure clinics in several Assisted Living facilities as well. The key to a healthy lifestyle is through ongoing education about prevention, treatment, and management. Our professional staff will provide you with the information you need.

Insurance healthcare benefits will be changing as they do each year, and navigating through the process can be stressful. Choose an agent you can trust to help you choose the plan that is best for you. Educate yourself and stay informed. Medications may be cheaper but what if you were hospitalized and need Home Care services after a hospitalization, would your current or new plan provide coverage for you? No one ever plans on having a fall or getting injured but if you do you want to ensure your health Insurance is going to meet all your medical needs.

As we enter 2025 there are a lot of unknowns ahead of us, most of which are out of our control. Regardless, move forward one step at a time with a positive attitude and a plan to make this year the best for your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Franklin VNA and Hospice is here to support you and the community’s needs. Thank you for choosing Franklin VNA and Hospice as your Home Health and Hospice agency and for sharing your experience with our services with others. It is because of you that we are able to continue to remain a small independent hometown agency.

Franklin VNA and Hospice is always here to help you and your loved one with any of your healthcare needs.

Germ of the Month

Toxoplasmosis

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic infection that is commonly associated with foodborne illness. This infection typically will effect those who are immunocompromised or pregnant.

Toxoplasmosis is caused by a single-celled parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. In the United States it is the leading cause of death from foodborne illness.

Symptoms include flu like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches and pains. This infection has the potential to cause severe organ or brain damage, and can damage the eyes.

Common food sources for this parasite are contaminated undercooked meat, shellfish, or fresh produce.

Prevention of this parasitic infection include using a food thermometer to ensure meats are cooked to the appropriate temperature, rinsing fruits and vegetables, avoiding raw milk, oysters, mussels, or clams.
