Celebrating Black History Month
|
|
This Black History Month, Novato proudly celebrates and recognizes the achievements of Black Americans and recognizes their central role in American history. We’re proud of our diverse community and encourage you to nominate a Novatan who has made a positive impact in our community at novatoproud.com.
We’re especially #NovatoProud to celebrate Christopher Major, former teacher and strong believer in the power of chess. As founder and president of the Novato Chess Club, he teaches children in our community how to cultivate internal motivation, visualization, and other critical thinking skills through Novato’s Parks & Recreation programs. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more #NovatoProud posts throughout Black History Month!
Marin County Free Library Showcases Black History
All month long, special events will be held online to create awareness and appreciation, including through books, films, art, public discussions, and other programming. “Food for the Soul: Celebrate Black History at MCFL” programming was created in conjunction with County of Marin African American Employees Association (COMAEA). Residential Car Washing Tips
The Marin County Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program (MCSTOPPP) reminds us to take the environment into consideration when washing our cars at home.
When you wash your car on the street or driveway, the soap - together with dirt and oil washed from your car - flows into nearby storm drains, which then flow into local creeks, wetlands, the bay or ocean. And this run-off is lethal to fish and other aquatic life, even in small amounts.
Planning a car wash fundraiser? MCSTOPPP offers a Fish-Friendly Car Wash Kit you can borrow!

Does Your Dog Have a License?
Of course all dogs have a license to play, but did you know that all dogs in Novato must also have a license from Marin Humane?
Did you also know that every city in Marin County partners with Marin Humane for domestic animal and wildlife care? And, all Marin cities require dogs to have and wear a dog license.
It's not just the law though, it's a safety net for lost dogs to return home safely to their families. Marin Humane has one of the highest return-to-home rates in the country.
We are fortunate to have a nationally recognized animal services organization here in Marin.
