Eyes Up, Be Alert

Let’s Make our Streets Safer for Everyone! From mid-October through the end of November, you’ll see bright and colorful banners and lawn signs popping up all over Marin asking people to keep their “Eyes Up” and be alert. These signs will be asking drivers to slow down, watch when making turns, and look for pedestrians in the crosswalk. They'll also ask bicyclists to yield to pedestrians and to follow the rules of the road. And, of course, those walking should always pay attention when crossing the street.

The Eyes Up, Marin Campaign is part of the Street Smarts Program and Safe Routes to Schools, locally funded programs of the Transportation Authority of Marin.

For more information, visit streetsmartsmarin.org.
Ojos Aribba, Esta Alerta

Proposed Prohibitions on New and Expanded Gas Stations

The Novato City Council held a public hearing on October 25, 2022 to consider adoption of an ordinance prohibiting the construction of new gas stations and the expansion of existing gas stations. Adoption of the ordinance is scheduled for November 15, 2022.

Under the proposed ordinance, the twelve gas stations currently serving Novato would continue to operate as normal, and two complete applications for new gas stations will proceed through the public review process.

The Inflation Reduction Act provides generous tax credits for the purchase of both used and new electric vehicles and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is expected to significantly accelerate the installation of electric vehicle charging stations. The City of Novato operates twelve electric vehicle charging stations throughout the City; offering low-cost charging for residents, workers, and visitors.
Team Up to Clean Up

Get involved in your community and help our City sparkle!

Novato Streetscape Committee Team Up to Clean Up volunteers meet on the first Saturday of each month (weather dependent) at a pre-determined location to pick up and properly dispose of litter. To be added to the Streetscape Committee mailing list and receive notifications of clean up locations email: streetscape@novato.org

Team Up to Clean Up is a great opportunity for Novato high school students to complete community service hours! All students must submit a Volunteer Services Agreement and Release form signed by a parent or guardian prior to participating. Please email gschubeck@novato.org to be sent a copy of the form.

All volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle, snack, and wear closed-toed shoes and sun protection. The City of Novato provides vests, grabbers, and trash bags for use by volunteers.
New Water Heaters Reduce Emissions

The City recently participated in a turn-key project funded by PG&E and MCE to replace six gas-powered hot water heaters with high-efficiency electric hot water heat pumps at five City facilities, including two large units at the Hamilton pool.

The project, valued at over $71,000 was fully funded with incentives provided by PGE and MCE. Other than a small amount of staff time, there were no out-of-pocket costs to the City. The new hot water heat pumps will save 7,624 therms of natural gas every year, which is equivalent to driving a passenger car over 100,000 miles a year.
“Cash-For-Grass” Turf Replacement Incentive

North Marin Water District (NMWD) is offering residential customers a cash incentive for removing automatically irrigated lawn area and replacing the lawn with approved, low water-use planted landscapes.

The NMWD incentive will pay you up to $100 per 100 square feet ($1 per square foot) of lawn area. The incentive is limited to $800 for single family dwellings, $100 for townhouses or condominiums (common area), and $50 for apartments (common area).
