Friendly Reminder Regarding Frontier

Frontier is a Public Utility Commission regulated utility with facilities in the City of Novato. Currently, Frontier is bringing in ground penetrating radars and a camera system to assist with locating services, water lines, and to accurately mark the private sewer laterals.

What to expect during this work:
  • As required by law, Frontier will locate and mark existing underground utilities to prevent damage and ensure public safety. They'll identify these lines with temporary paint markings in or near yards.
  • If neighborhood utilities are underground, Frontier's contractor will excavate in the public right of way to make a path for the fiber-optic cable and then restore any impacted streets, sidewalks or landscaping.
  • If neighborhood utilities are on utility poles, Frontier's contractor will need access to any facilities or poles on your property (including backyards). After street construction is completed, Frontier will install, connect and test the fiber-optic cable.

For more information visit novato.org/frontier or contact Golden State Utility at 415.963.4491 or [email protected].

The Novato Historical Guild: New Exhibit at the Hamilton Field History Museum

The Novato Historical Guild's new exhibit features Edward E. Tanner. On December 7, 1941, 21-year-old Tanner applied for transfer to the Army Air Corps and was assigned to Hamilton Field. There he met and fell in love with June Hendrick of San Rafael, who worked as a civilian employee in the accounting/finance office at the base.

Just two months after they were married, Ed received his overseas orders, and flew to Casablanca, Morocco, where he joined the First Fighter Group, 71st Squadron. On December 1, 1943, his squadron was escorting B-36 bombers. During the battle, Ed’s P-38 collided with George Parker’s aircraft. Both pilots ejected to safety near Pisa, where they were captured by German troops. Ed and George were transported by boxcar to Stalag Luft I on Nazi Germany’s Baltic Coast. On May 1, 1945, after 545 days of captivity, their German captors moved out. On May 13, a group of B-17s flew in from England to transport hundreds of former POWs to France. Tanner returned to the U.S., where he was given 90 days leave. Ed and June were reunited at last.

The Hamilton Field History Museum is in the historic 1934 Hamilton Firehouse at 555 Hangar Avenue, Novato 94949. Phone number is (415) 382-8614. Learn more at novatohistory.org.

Enforcement of Gas-Powered Leaf Blower Ban / La prohibición de sopladores de hojas a gas

In September 2022, the Novato City Council adopted an ordinance regulating the use of leaf blowers within Novato City limits. Provisions of the ordinance include allowable hours of operation, restrictions on blowing debris, and a prohibition on the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.

To allow time for businesses and residents to transition to compliant electric leaf blowers, enforcement of the ban on gas-powered units for properties 10 acres or less was delayed until July 1, 2023. Properties larger than ten acres (or those with a land use designation of agricultural or conservation) will have until July 1, 2024, to comply with the gas-powered leaf blower prohibition.

For more information about the leaf blower ordinance and to learn about state funding available for professional landscapers, please visit novato.org/leafblowers.
