Novato's Newest City Manager
In November, Adam McGill was appointed as Novato's 8th City Manager. McGill had been serving as Acting City Manager since August, and served as Novato's Chief of Police prior to taking on this new role.

"I feel fortunate for the opportunity to represent this community and am grateful to the Council for the confidence they have placed in me," said McGill. "I am committed to collaboration and inclusiveness and excited to help strengthen organizational and community confidence in all of our City operations. I will especially miss leading the day to day operations of the Police Department and serving alongside some of the best policing professionals I've ever been associated with."

Chief Matt McCaffrey Sworn-In
On December 11, the City held a swearing-in ceremony for Chief Matt McCaffrey. As Chief, McCaffrey oversees a department made up of sixty-one sworn and twenty-five professional staff.

"I've always felt fortunate that I was able to find a place like Novato where the community appreciates the men and women who make protecting their community a priority," said Chief McCaffrey. "I was impressed with our staff from my first day here and continue to be impressed with their dedication and commitment in providing police services to the Novato Community. I look forward to continuing to work with all City staff to provide excellent service to our community and making Novato a great place to live, work and play in."

McCaffrey is Novato's 11th Chief of Police and has been with the Novato Police Department since 2015.

Spotlight on Novato Streetscape Committee
Team Up to Clean Up
Way back in 1994, members of the Novato community came forward with a desire to help beautify our city and so began the  Novato Streetscape Committee . Over the years this committee has developed community-wide initiatives including:
  • Clean & Green Day: An annual signature event of Novato Streetscape for the last 24 years in which the community comes out in force to help beautify our town by cleaning up our streets, creeks, medians and more.
  •  Adopt-an-Island: A program that provides an opportunity for residents, businesses, groups and other organizations to adopt a median island in an effort to enhance Novato's beauty and create community pride.
  • Business Recognition: Rewards businesses that have created beautiful landscapes around their building(s).
  • Team Up to Clean Up: Meets on the first Saturday of the month with volunteers of all ages to clean up litter at locations around Novato. Students can earn community service hours.
Attend an upcoming meeting
The committee meets on the 2nd Monday of each month, 7pm at the City Administrative Offices, 922 Machin Avenue. More info at novato.org/calendar.
