Be Prepared: Public Safety Power Shutoffs
As part of its Community Wildfire Safety Program, PG&E's Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are an additional precautionary measure to help reduce the risk of wildfires.
Check out these tips to help you plan and prepare for a potential PSPS:
- Update your contact information with PG&E and sign-up for important outage alerts at pge.com/mywildfirealerts.
- Have a personal safety plan in place for every member of your household including pets. Check out PG&E's "Make Your Own Emergency Plan" tool at safetyactioncenter.pge.com.
- Plan for any medical needs like medications that need to be refrigerated or devices that require power. If you use a medical or life support device, apply for PG&E's Medical Baseline Program.
- Build or restock your emergency supply kit with food, water, flashlights, a radio, fresh batteries, first aid supplies and cash.
- Designate an emergency meeting location.
- Identify backup charging methods for phones and keep hard copies of emergency phone numbers.

Stay Healthy Novato
The best way to reduce the risk of becoming infected with a respiratory virus, whether the flu or coronavirus, is to practice good hygiene:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Wear a face covering when out in public spaces.
- Maintain 6 feet distance from those outside of your own household.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or crook of your elbow (not your hands). If you use a tissue, throw it away and wash your hands afterward.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Stay home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
