Announcements:

On March 14, the Mayor and New York City Council announced a major investment in the human services sector: over the next three years, the City budget will include a 9.27% wage increase for City-contracted human services workers!

This $740 million investment will impact 80,000 City-contracted human services workers across New York City. This new commitment is a major win for human services workers, organizations, and community members alike – and we are thrilled to share the news with you today.

Here’s what nonprofit workers under a City contract can expect:

  • A 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for Fiscal Year 25 – on top of the $170 million already allocated for the Workforce Enhancement Initiative
  • A 3% COLA for Fiscal Year 26
  • A 3% COLA for Fiscal Year 27

Since we launched the JustPay Campaign in 2021, we've been calling on the City to finally make a significant – and long overdue – investment in human services workers by committing to meaningful, yearly increases in salaries to help workers keep up with cost-of-living. This investment is a big step towards undoing decades of underfunding for human services.

As a result of our State advocacy, a 3.2% COLA for State-contracted human services workers was recently included in the one-house budgets! However, the budgets were missing Wage Board Legislation, which would help achieve pay parity between nonprofit and government human services workers.

For National Social Work Month, we are organizing a JustPay Social Work Week of Action from Monday, March 25th-Friday, March 29th. During that week, we encourage Social Workers, human services workers and MSW/BSW students to call State leaders and demand Wage Board Legislation in the final State budget. The final budget is typically released in early April, so now is the last chance!

Your workers can sign up here. They will then be on our list to receive the campaign link as we draw closer to the Week of Action, which will include the call script and phone numbers.
