McGeorge International

Dear Readers,

We wish you a Happy New Year, filled with health, joy and success!

We are pleased to invite you to read this McGeorge International Newsletter, Issue #3, in which you can find not only updates from McGeorge School of Law, but also interesting interviews with our graduates.

Introduction of a new member of the editing committee

Manzi and Linda are delighted to introduce Veronika Plešková! She is a McGeorge LLM alumna (‘09) who practices law in Prague, the Czech Republic (employment, immigration and corporate law). Veronika joined the McGeorge International Newsletter team as one of its co-editors in fall 2024. We are already the beneficiaries of her ideas, insight and energy!

A brief update from the International Board Of Advisors (“IBOA”) Action Committee

First, the Action Committee would like to acknowledge and thank Veronika Plešková for joining Linda Carter and Lawrence Manzi as part of the engine that created and pushes forward this newsletter, McGeorge International. We are grateful for her insight, energy and drive that has proven a great asset!

Second, the Action Committee is proud to announce a new initiative designed to increase the attendance at McGeorge of students from around the world. Henry Liao, Managing Partner of Schinders Law based in Guangzhou, PRC, has agreed to lead a pilot project designed to organize McGeorge Alumni in the PRC to identify outstanding students and seek ways to finance their attendance to the Law School. Working together with the Office of International Programs, we seek to establish a long-lasting process to recruit and promote the attendance of outstanding students. We are grateful to have a committed alum like Henry who has accepted to lead such an important project.

While this is the Action Committee’s first step to seek a new way to promote the attendance by international students to McGeorge, we hope that you may be willing to help us with similar efforts in other jurisdictions. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of helping us, please contact Iván Morales (imorales@icorpcon.com) and/or Clémence Kucera (ckucera@pacific.edu) and we will seek to foster similar opportunities elsewhere. We are excited to get individuals with both the willingness and legal knowledge to identify ways to make this work around the world. And, do not feel limited by where you reside or work, we are looking to create new opportunities in places where McGeorge, in the past, had limited exposure including Africa, Asia and Latin America. If you are interested, please let us know.

In future editions of McGeorge International, we will let you know as to our progress in this and other areas.

We fully understand being a professional in a legal field is challenging and time demanding. Yet we believe that our paths should not split upon graduation. We want you back! If you are passionate about sharing your experiences and ideas, we encourage you to join our teams of volunteers for McGeorge alumni. Please reach out to Veronika Pleskova (veronika.pleskova@vplegal.cz) and Iván Morales (imorales@icorpcon.com) identifying particular areas in which you would like to contribute (newsletter, alumni events, etc.) and your up-to-date contact details. We will reply as soon as possible with next steps.

We hope that you enjoy this issue! As always, please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions.

Warm regards to all,
