A Note From Our Executive Director
Hi Friends!
Our team has been super busy since our last update - we’ve now served 122 vulnerable homeowners in need and we are on pace to achieve our service goal of 178 homeowners served by June 30, 2021. We are also actively participating in April’s National Rebuilding Month (#RebuildingMonth) and looking forward to our Cheers to 30 Years celebration on June 9th. Earlier this month RTMC joined the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and we are excited to report RTMC received a $10,000 donation from Lowe’s to help us provide more critical home repairs to neighbors in need.

Welcome to Bob Goff, RTMC Construction Manager!
Please join us in welcoming our new Construction Manager, Bob Goff, to the RTMC team! Bob recently retired after a 30-year career with Montgomery County Code Enforcement, serving as an Inspector and later as a Supervisor. RTMC has partnered with Bob over the years on code violation mitigation for our clients. Bob is also a skilled general contractor and previously provided home repairs for our clients through his business, Goff Properties. Here’s what a recent satisfied RTMC homeowner had to say about Bob:
“Bob did an awesome job repairing my home and making it safe for me. He was always on time, very polite, and very skilled. Thank you!”
We are fortunate to have Bob’s knowledge and skills to serve our vulnerable homeowners. Bob deeply understands the needs of our homeowners and his kindness and compassion for them, as well as his passion for our mission, will help take RTMC to new heights. Welcome, Bob!

Spotlight on a [Re]Builder: Andra Henning
Our Spotlight on a [Re]Builder highlights Andra Henning, RTMC Board Member and Director of Professional Development and Clinical Education for Therapy at Adventist HealthCare. Andra is pictured above with her beautiful son, Benjamin.
Andra has played a vital role in RTMC’s success. Her experience as an occupational therapist (OT) and her healthcare background has helped RTMC to improve how we serve our homeowners. We are fortunate to be able to benefit from her leadership experience and her vast knowledge about the social determinants of health.
Here’s some of what Andra had to say:
"I began my relationship with Rebuilding Together years ago as an occupational therapy volunteer coordinator with the Rebuilding Together Baltimore affiliate. I graduated in 2000 as an occupational therapist, and have had invaluable opportunities to support patients as they return home after life-changing illnesses. It’s so rewarding to help folks as they transition back to as much independence in the community as possible. When my patients would discharge from the hospital, I could trust in RTMC to collaborate with us to look at the determinants of health and help our patients successfully thrive at home. It’s become a really great partnership."

Keeping Up With The Program Team:
Thank You Atlantida Builders!
Montgomery County has a severe shortage of affordable housing and many area homeowners are also struggling with the high cost of home repairs. Low-income homeowners, who are generally not able to put aside money for future home maintenance or accessibility modifications, are at increased risk of displacement from their homes should a critical repair need arise.
Many of our neighbors in need, who have had to defer critical repairs, call us after receiving homeowner association (HOA) complaints or violations. One such homeowner is Ms. G., pictured above with RTMC AmeriCorps Client Outreach Coordinator, Joni Keaton. Thanks to our contractor partner, Fabian Molina of Atlantida Builders, we were able to coordinate repairs including a leaking skylight, rotted trim on her front door, and damaged window screens and shutters. Ms. G. was thrilled to receive the repairs, to avoid the expensive HOA fines and to improve the safety of her home as she ages in place.

Homeowner Story: Ms. R & Mr. T
The RTMC Team sprang into action after learning that elderly homeowners Ms. R. and Mr. T. had been living without a functioning toilet for years. Bob Goff spent countless hours snaking and assessing the septic drain line, ultimately determining that the entire line would need to be dug up. We are so grateful to Rick Throne, manager of the Gaithersburg United Rentals, who heard about our plight and personally dropped off a mini excavator free of charge to help us complete the job. We are all delighted that Ms. R. and Mr. T. are able to safely remain in their home. Thank you, Rick!
