NLLD Officials Make Case on Capitol Hill for Morganza, Flood Insurance Reform
and GOMESA
NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois and Executive Assistant Katie Deroche met with Congressional leaders and agency staff in Washington, D.C. in March to advocate for three issues very critical to North Lafourche flood protection: Morganza to the Gulf, reform to the national flood insurance program and increased GOMESA revenue for state coastal protection and restoration projects.

  • Morganza to the Gulf - NLLD officials updated members of Louisiana's Congressional delegation on the status of the hurricane protection program, including the Adaptive Criteria Assessment Report, which has been approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. It is a critical time to keep Morganza in the forefront in order to reach our region's goal of securing federal funding to complete the project.

  • NFIP - The latest extension to the federal flood insurance program ends in September. Lindsay Cooper, Policy Advisor for the Office of the Governor- Coastal Activities and NLLD officials met with our federal delegation to discuss the next steps in NFIP reauthorization and reform. In order to bring awareness to this issue, Louisiana, as a leader in understanding water risks, will garner support from other states' leaders and Congressional delegations who also give high priority to flood insurance as they continue to face more water disasters.

  • GOMESA - Louisiana and the NLLD continue to push for the raising of the cap on GOMESA funding received by the state and other states that support offshore oil and gas production. Increased revenue from GOMESA would fund more coastal protection and restoration projects.
A Message from Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois

As our community strives to stem the spread of COVID-19, we urge you to follow the guidance of government agencies and protect yourself and your loved ones.

The NLLD continues to be fully operational as levee and drainage work is essential to our state and community. Our office is following all CDC guidelines for social distancing and office entry is limited at this time to employees only. Additionally, all meetings of the NLLD are now being conducted by audio/visual teleconferencing only in accordance with Governor Edwards' proclamation on COVID-19.

Please don't hesitate to contact us by phone or email if you have any questions.
Take care and stay safe!
