A Note from Ilana
Get ready for Global Wellness Day!

GWD is just around the corner and the world is busy planning events.  What are you planning at your spa?
We all know that wellness is being aware and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. Wellness is more than being free from illness, it is a dynamic process of change and growth. "...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or ill-health.

Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Wellness matters because everything we do and every sentiment we feel relates to our well-being. Our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions. It’s an ongoing cycle. Therefore, it is important for everyone to attain the best possible wellness in order to suppress stress, reduce the risk of illness and ensure positive interactions.

As we count down to the official worldwide dedicatory date for Global Wellness Day; Spas, Wellness Centers, Educational Institutions, Businesses and many other organizations are gearing up for health-driven and fitness oriented celebrations throughout the world.

Cynthia Bell, Director of Spa Operations
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood

Cynthia Bell returns to lifelong love and the Spa Industry couldn’t be happier….

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida has hired Cynthia Bell as the new Director of Spa Operations and the Industry is buzzing…  After a successful career spanning decades in the Luxury Spa World, a world which Cindy has been an entrenched, active, respected, five-star gathering professional who loved the challenge, the people, the work; she left that love behind for another kind of love.

Leaving her five-year position with Acqualina Resort & Spa to help take care of her mother a year and a half ago was a hard, yet loving decision. After losing her mother this past March, Cindy was ready to return to the work she loved and missed. “The timing was right, the position was right and it is an excellent fit.  “My mother was my biggest cheerleader and she’d be thrilled and cheering me on right now”.

Back in a hard hat, which Cindy is no stranger to after opening more than a couple of Spas in her career, she is grateful for the opportunity with the Seminole Hard Rock “Rock Spa” , Hollywood where the existing and Interim Spa currently located at the Casino will be phased out with the opening of the new “Rock Spa” which will encompass the entire 3 rd floor in the Guitar Building opening October 2019.

"Loving what I do is the key, leaving for love was the right thing to do and returning to the work I love has brought me full circle. I am proud to be a part of what will be South Florida’s Premier Hotel, Casino, and Resort Destination which will feature the largest World Class Spa…. Rock Spa - Cindy Bell

With sincere compassion, we offer our condolences to Cindy and her family for the loss of her beloved mother. We also praise Cindy for her strength, dedication and passion for the spa industry as she takes on this new role at Rock Spa. A true leader in every sense of the word, we wish Cindy the very best of luck and admire her for all the amazing contributions she has made for our spa community.
 Congratulations Cindy!!

Universal Companies Undergoes Rebranding and Renewal
When most people think of rebranding, they think “new logo.” For us, it’s more heartfelt–it has deeper meaning than an updated look for our company. In fact, it’s not really about our company.

We wanted to visually communicate spa, wellness, and the nurturing environment you provide to your clients every day. (Yes, you’re part of the inspiration behind our new look!) Providing a peaceful haven and fostering self-care–it’s why you do what you do, so reflecting that in soft hues and clean, classic imagery was important as we worked on design elements and photography.
Karen Short, CEO, Universal Companies

While Karen is at the helm of these big changes, you’re at the heart of them. When you see our updated look and visit our new website, remember that these improvements were made for you. It really comes down to this philosophy: Our business is good when your business is better.
Past FSA Event
FSA EAUchella on May 1st, was a Bohemian themed Event inspired by the annual Coachella Festival and a way for the FSA to experience a free spirited life and wellness that we devote to our vendor partners and Florida Spa Community. Held in Eau Palm Beach Resort's "AquaNuts" kid-center, where a world of creativity and imagination was the main layout in the exhibit area, FSA vendors displayed and demonstrated their impressive brands by firing up their artistic cleverness.

As spa guests arrived dressed in Boho chic outfits, they were met with free-flowing bubbles as they registered for the event and were given flower crowns and bracelets to wear for our festivities.
The expo was a maze of ingenuity and originality that delighted spas as they experienced innovative presentations and had the opportunity to meet and connect with vendors to learn about their products. Spa attendees commented on the unique adventure path and enjoyed this atypical way to connect, learn and discover. Vendors expressed how much they appreciated the opportunity to meet with spa attendees on a one-on-one basis and in such a magical way as they did at this event. Spas also experienced pampering treatments, compliments of esteemed skin care brands. Our vendor partners and supporters of the FSA represent the finest in the industry and a key part of the association’s success and future.
Thank you to our amazing Vendor Partners that made our
FSA "EAUchella" possible and so special!

Reduce Spa Employee Turnover with Seven Proven Strategies

Lower than desired wages, high demand, and many other factors can cause spas employees to quit with regularity, often going on to become self-employed . This has a high price. According to research, the cost of losing and replacing an employee can be upwards to 200% of that employee’s salary. And if you’re doing that on repeat, you’re basically bleeding money.

There are ways to stem the tide and avoid many of these losses. Here are 7 strategies for reducing spa employee turnover:

Natural Healing - The Power of CBD
The Skin Benefits of CBD
Soothe your skin and support healing
A restorative solution for all skin types including acne-prone and sensitive skin, CBD is a natural plant compound that’s been shown to help reduce inflammation and support the skin’s natural healing process

What is it?
CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a naturally occurring plant compound derived from the cannabis plant. CBD is one of over a hundred cannabinoids (cannabis plant chemicals) present in hemp plants. Other cannabinoid compounds include THC, the plant chemical responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana. While CBD is found in the marijuana plant, it is both completely non-psychoactive (won’t get you high) and legal to buy in its isolated form
What does it do?
CBD has been studied for its relaxing, pain-relieving, and anti-anxiety properties when taken internally, but recent research has shown that it also has calming and therapeutic benefits when applied topically to the skin. It has been shown to help reduce pain and inflammation caused by inflammatory skin conditions, and may even help ease the discomfort of headaches. CBD also has potent antioxidant effects, which means it may help counteract signs of aging caused by free radicals.

The Grass is Greener.........
Nearly Every Country In The World Just Vowed To Reduce Plastic Pollution
Last week, world leaders wrapped things up at the Basel Convention —a two-week gathering in Geneva, Switzerland, that covers how we can clean up the planet for the sake of human health.

The 187 countries in attendance landed on some important decisions: They agreed to ban the use of harmful industrial chemicals like PFOA (which has been found in drinking water supplies around the world and is linked to hormone disruption) and called for more regulation on plastic pollution for the sake of our oceans.
