Board of Commissioners Meeting Recap
The NLLD Board of Commissioners conducted its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
Below are updates on NLLD levee and drainage projects
presented at the meeting.
Gheens Project Area:
Jesse Dufrene FDA Levee Improvements
Onshore Materials, LLC is progressing well with this project, located in the Gheens community. Additional material is being added to a 4,000-foot area of the Jesse Dufrene FDA Levee to raise it from its original plans of 5-feet elevation to 7-feet elevation. This will bring this part of the levee up to the height of the rest of the Jesse Dufrene Levee, completing the final project from an initial height of 4 feet to a much more protective 7 feet in elevation.
Thibodaux-Lockport-Bayou Blue Project Area:
US 90 at Bayou Folse
The levee sections between and under the bridges over Bayou Folse on U.S. Highway 90 have been considerably lower than the adjacent earthen levees on either side of the bridges. The U.S. 90 at Bayou Folse Project increases the height of the levee around the bridges on both sides of U.S. 90 and on both sides of Bayou Folse to provide greater flood protection.

Contractor Byron E Talbot has backfilled the channel and installed the culverts. The service road on the western side of Bayou Folse has been closed to install the levee embankment and sheet pile, and the closure for the road will tie the levee into the bridge approaches. Work has also begun on the eastern side of Bayou Folse.
Lockport to Larose Project Area:
Lockport to Larose Reaches C4,C5, D1
Onshore Materials, LLC is currently working south of the Entergy power lines in the Lockport to Larose project area, shaping the levee to template.
