Dear church,

This whole week, I have felt just a little discombobulated. Have you too? It is a weird and unsettling feeling, knowing that time has been adjusted. The end of…and beginning of daylight saving time, or whenever we travel, our sense of what is right and what is wrong sometimes is called into question. The sun seems to set sooooo early. The evenings seem soooo long and the mornings are sooo early. At least, that is our perception, right? It wasn’t that long ago that we crossed into the mountain time zone with our Denver Mission Trip this past summer, but our phones didn’t update. Confusion ensued. Maybe this quick video will bring some joy to your Friday.)

Our text for this Sunday is set right at the beginning of what is known as book four of the Psalms, Psalm 90. Psalm 90 is the only psalm attributed to Moses and in particular, reflects on God’s eternal nature. From the beginning, God is. Read that again, God is in the beginning. That is one of the themes of Genesis 1. It’s also the theme of Revelation 22, God wins. And it’s picked up in Psalm 90 too. God not only exists outside of time, it is in the Lord that we find our forever home. "From beginning to end, you are God.” -Psalm 90.2 (NLT)

So, what have we to fear? What have we to be confuse about? Why are we so tentative? God is majestic and merciful throughout all of time, time past and time to come. This is our promise. This is our Faithful God.

I want to share with you some very exciting news. You know that we’ve been searching for someone to strengthen, and grow the faith development of children and youth at New Life. On Sunday, we’ll introduce and install Haley Schepers as our Director of Faith Development. Haley is a recent graduate of Wartburg Theological Seminary and brings a wealth of experience and passion for sharing Jesus with others. Welcome Haley!

Speaking of discombobulated (that was at the beginning of my note), new staff and new programs will discombobulate us. So, we’ll need to “re-combobulate.” Like when we make it through the scanners at the airport and then we put stuff back together…sometimes we find a better way, a different place to put things. I am firmly convinced that we’re going to be better together in the timeless promise that God is faithful!
