Dear church,

It’s good to be back. I’ve been back a week now, exactly. Lot’s to catch up on and lot’s to do. Oh, and I’m preaching again this weekend. Sweet! We’ll be in our first week of a new sermon series called HOMECOMING. We’ll be exploring the story Jesus tells in Luke 15 about the prodigal.

High School Breakfast is back. I love having some time to be with a few students every week. We were missing a few. Some of our core group graduated last spring. Some of our core group has some other obligations on Friday mornings for now. Some of the newer students were too nervous to show up for the first time.

It’s hard to know if you’re going to fit in! It’s hard to know where you belong, until you do! AND, knowing that you belong, is so important!

Can you imagine, walking into a church, a big building that your don’t know, for the first time? Then, imagine not knowing much about the people or the place. That’s hard! Anxiety about the first day of school is real…remember that a few weeks ago for those students? By now, many of those same fears are gone, because those students have found their friends and know where they belong. Some are still searching to belong!

This week, we’ll be studying the story of the prodigal in Luke 15. It’s a great story about a man who spends recklessly, AND, when they don’t have anything else, they need a place to belong. Thanks be to God that they find belonging again.

This story of the prodigal is pretty familiar to many of us, and brand new to others. AND, it still speaks to us (if it doesn’t, we’re the problem).

I’m excited to unpack this story with you for the next three weeks! In it, we’ll learn who really belongs and who is welcomed home.

See you in church:)

-Pastor Nate

PS: this weekend is our return to 8:15 & 10:30 worship as well as 9:30 JOURNEY Sunday School & Adult Forum. Pay attention to the schedule updates. Also, one more reminder that we’ll be doing some yard work for a neighbor and at the church after 10:30 worship this Sunday for “God’s Work. Our Hands. Sunday.”
