Center for Population Health Newsletter

National Public Health Week is the first week in April!

The first week in April is designated as National Public Health Week (NPHW) and a great time to learn more about the steps that should be taken to create a healthier community.

This year's theme is "Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health."

Each year, the American Public Health Association also creates daily themes. This year Monday is Civic Engagement, Tuesday is Healthy Neighborhoods, Wednesday is Climate Change, Thursday is New Tools and Innovations, Friday is Reproductive and Sexual Health, Saturday is Emergency Preparedness, and Sunday is Future of Public Health.

Center for Population Health will continue its work creating healthier communities in Cambria and Somerset counties.

Pennsylvania's Title V Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant survey

Every five years, Pennsylvania's Title V Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant requires the Bureau of Family Health to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs of pregnant and postpartum people, infants, children, adolescents and children and youth with special health care needs in Pennsylvania.

The Bureau of Family Health is working toward identifying the seven to ten priority health needs that will guide state and local public health work over the next five years.

The survey is an opportunity for providers and families across the Commonwealth to share their thoughts on the priorities.

Please take a few moments to take the survey.

National Save Your Vision Month is observed every March by the American Optometric Association and is a reminder to make your vision a top priority.

In rural communities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that roughly one-third of adults live with a disability and 1 in 12 adults report having three or more disabilities.

According to the Census, 2.5% of Cambria County’s population and 1.9% of Somerset County’s population has “vision difficulty.”
