CPH staff tables at Vietnam Veteran Recognition Day

The Center for Population Health recently participated in the 9th Annual Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day ceremony, an event dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of Vietnam Veterans. With over 350 people in attendance, the room was filled with Veterans and their loved ones, along with a wide array of informational displays highlighting the Vietnam War and available Veteran-focused resources.

During the event, Kimberly Roberts, Associate Director, provided educational materials, distributed gun locks, shared suicide prevention information, and connected attendees with details about an upcoming Veteran Family Fun Day scheduled for this June.

“Providing support to Veterans who may not have received acknowledgement or support when they returned home from Vietnam, is a privilege and an honor for me, said Kimberly. "CPH continues to partner with Veteran’s Community Initiatives and the University of Pittsburgh to enhance Veteran connections for Cambria and Somerset County Veterans.”

CPH Executive Director presents to Conemaugh Physician Group, Somerset Rotary Club

This month, Executive Director Jeannine McMillan was honored to present to the Conemaugh Physician Group Office Manager meeting and Somerset Rotary Club. Jeannine shared information on the work of the Center for Population Health and the many health and human service resources available to support individuals in the community.

Thank you to both of these organizations for the opportunity to share this information.

AI in the Alleghenies event held at UPJ

CPH, 1889 Foundation, Community Foundation for the Alleghenies, Cambria Regional Chamber, Problem Solutions, and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown hosted its first AI in the Alleghenies event on March 10.

Professionals came together to learn more about how AI is shaping businesses and nonprofit organizations in the area. Speakers discussed AI's integration into education, medicine, and businesses in the morning session. Then, in the afternoon session, attendees participated in an AI Bootcamp and breakout sessions.

A Breath of Nature Mindfulness Practice

Pause. Step outside if you can. If you can’t get outside, look toward something natural, a houseplant or a picture of a forest.

Take a slow breath in… and out.

Notice what you see: colors, light, movement.

Notice what you hear: near sounds, far sounds.

Notice what you feel: air on your skin, your body supported.

Let your attention rest gently on something in nature: a tree, a leaf, the sky.

No effort. No goal. Just noticing.

Take one more deep breath…and carry that sense of calm with you.
