Our Wonderful Traditions at Wolford
At the end of each school year, we recognize and honor our hard-working students. One aspect of this celebration is the tradition of having our fifth graders walk through our building, while younger grade levels cheer and honor our graduating class. What a lovely way to say good-bye, wish bon voyage, and celebrate as we send off our fifth graders with our best wishes as they move on to middle school. All grade levels participate in a special “appreciations” celebration as well. Stay tuned for more information coming home soon to our fifth-grade families.
Also, on the last day of school, with the help of our fabulous music teacher, Mrs. Ludi Srinivasan, we will begin our day with a special flag raising celebration. All parents are invited to attend as the entire student body and faculty gather around our flagpole to end another wonderful school year. We hope to see our entire community come to help us celebrate too. On May 20h at 8:00 a.m. sharp, we will find our community gathered around our flagpole for this special celebration. We hope our parents can join us as we spend a very special time together as a school community before the start of summer.

Enrollment Survey for Registration
With your student’s report card that was sent home, there was also a brief survey about enrollment plans for next year. The survey is important because it asks you to verify parent email addresses as registration codes and link for next school year will be emailed in early June. It also asks about any incoming Kindergarten students and whether your current student will be returning. This information is vital as it helps with all our planning, including staffing. Please complete and return as soon as possible.
Kindergarten and new student registration opened online on April 11 at https://www.mckinneyisd.net/enrollment/. Make sure to select the 2022-23 school year which begins on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
If you have any questions about next year and registration, please call Kori Godfrefy at (469) 302-4700 or email kgodfrey@mckinneyisd.net

ASTHMA
May is National Allergy and Asthma awareness month. This month students are learning about asthma during morning announcements. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America Asthma affects more than 25 million Americans1. It is a chronic disease that causes your airways to become inflamed, making it hard to breathe. There is no cure for asthma. The best way to manage asthma is to avoid triggers, take medications to prevent symptoms and prepare to treat asthma episodes if they occur.
Common symptoms are coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing and chest tightness. Asthma may lead to a medical emergency. It is important to know the signs of a severe asthma episode (or asthma attack).
A doctor may use a few different ways of testing for asthma. These include:
- Taking a detailed medical history
- A physical exam
- Lung function tests
- Chest or sinus X-ray
The doctor will look at the results from these tests. They will then decide what type of asthma you have. They will develop a treatment plan based on the type and severity of your symptoms.
People with asthma usually see a doctor that specializes in allergies or the immune system. You and your doctor will come up with a plan to treat your asthma. It often involves a blend of medication and avoiding triggers.
Asthma symptoms can appear when you are exposed to a trigger. A trigger is something you are sensitive to that makes your airways become inflamed. This causes swelling, mucous production and narrowing in your airways. Common asthma triggers are pollen, chemicals, extreme weather changes, smoke, dust mites, stress and exercise.
The best way to prevent an asthma episode, or attack, is to follow your treatment plan. Learn your triggers and avoid them. Take your allergy and asthma medicines when you should. Use your quick-acting medicine as soon as you start to notice symptoms.
Many people live normal lives with asthma if it’s properly managed. With a good treatment plan and guidance from your doctor, you can still do much of what you enjoy. For example, many professional athletes have asthma.
More Americans than ever before have asthma — about 25 million people in the U.S. have asthma1. It is one of the most common and costly diseases.
