AHEC CESSATION PROGRAM
Gulfcoast South AHEC offers free group quit sessions
virtually and in-person!
Tools to Quit sessions provides information about the effects of tobacco use, the benefits of quitting, and assists attendees with developing their own quit plan. Tools to Quit sessions are available both virtually and in-person. A link will be emailed to join by Zoom® conference via video after registration.
Audio Tools to Quit program is the audio alternative to the virtual Tools to Quit session.
Quit Smoking Now support groups meet once a week for four weeks and cover a variety of topics including coping with withdrawal symptoms, managing addiction and preventing relapse. Participants must attend all sessions.
Pre-registration is required for all types of sessions.

REACH Health Careers Camp
|
|
Gulfcoast South Area Health Education Center (GSAHEC) is coordinating a Virtual Health Careers Camp in partnership with Blake Medical Center. This camp is designed to provide high school students interested in health careers a rare and unique opportunity to explore a variety of health occupations through chats with health professionals, discussion groups with fellow students, and reflective learning assignments. These experiences help students learn from experienced health professionals, increases their knowledge about health care, and motivates the students to develop effective short and long term educational and career plans. No cost to attend.

Career Chats enable middle and high school students to learn from experienced health professionals, increases their knowledge about health careers, and motivates the students to develop effective short and long term educational and career plans.
Join us on the first Wednesday of every school month as we highlight different health careers with guest speakers, videos, thought-provoking activities, and discussion groups.

The goal of GSAHEC’s Advanced Cultural Competence Education and Support Services (ACCESS) Program is to promote health access, reduce health disparities and increase health literacy by assisting local health and human services organizations in providing quality, effective and responsive care to linguistically and culturally diverse communities across the state and beyond.
Below is a list of our programs:
Medical Interpreting Training: comprehensive, 40-hour course that meets the training requirement to apply for National Certification. A 16-hour version of the course is available that is geared to train bilingual employees on Medical Interpreting basics and complies with Title VI of the U.S. Civil Rights Act. Occupational Spanish Workshops: geared towards non-Spanish speaking safety and healthcare professionals, or anyone who needs to break the language barrier in order to better care for Spanish-speaking clients or patients. Click here to learn more.
Cultural Competency Seminars: the goal of these seminars is to educate health and human services providers on the best practices to deliver meaningful and understandable services and sensitive, patient-centered care to culturally diverse communities, while lowering liability risks and driving behavioral change their own organization’s culture. GSAHEC's 25th Anniversary Celebration

Gulfcoast South AHEC is celebrating the end of its first 25 years of service in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee and Sarasota counties. We invite you to join us for this milestone anniversary event! We will celebrate our history, the success of our participants, and our amazing partners and supporters. This will be an outdoor celebration with appropriate safety protocols in place.
