Dear Parents,
As we step into March, we’re filled with excitement for the arrival of spring and the halfway point of the school year! This season of renewal and growth brings many opportunities to celebrate and engage with our HSA McKinley Park community.
March is a special month as we recognize National Reading Month, Music in Our Schools Month, and Women’s History Month. Throughout the month, we’ll be weaving these important themes into our curriculum and activities to inspire and educate our students.
We are also preparing for the testing season, with the IAR, Pre-ACT, and ACT exams scheduled next month. Our students have been working hard, and we are confident in their abilities. Parents, your support is key—please ensure your child gets plenty of rest, eats a nutritious breakfast, stays hydrated, and arrives at school on time. Encouraging them to take their time and do their best will go a long way!
Your feedback is invaluable in shaping our school’s future. We kindly ask you to take a few moments to complete the 5Essentials Survey, which helps us understand how we can continue improving. Your input truly makes a difference!

Mr. Vedziovski

Homemade Organic Soap
Check out the amazing handmade soaps from Ms. Korichi’s high school chemistry class!
Our chemistry students put their science skills to the test by crafting their very own unique bar soaps with soothing ingredients like jasmine, chamomile, lavender, and olive oil.
But that’s not all—they are introducing their exclusive HSA Soap! This special creation is 100% organic, free of harmful chemicals, and features a blend of olive oil, shea butter, organic vanilla beans, and a secret ingredient that replaces lye, making it extra gentle on the skin. With a perfect pH of 7, it’s a safer and healthier alternative to store-bought soaps, which can have pH levels as high as 12!
We are so proud of our students for combining science and creativity to make something both innovative and practical

Shark Tank
Check out Ms. Crawford’s AP Language and Composition Class!
In her AP Language and Composition class, students have been mastering the art of persuasion, learning how authors use ethos, pathos, and logos to influence their audience.
- Ethos appeals to credibility and authority
- Pathos appeals to emotion
- Logos appeals to logic and reason
After analyzing these techniques, students took on the challenge of creating their own products and using persuasive strategies to sell them. On presentation day, teachers stepped in as “sharks”, listening to pitches and making deals with students who successfully sold their products.
By the end, we all wished these brilliant business ideas were real! Huge shoutout to Ms. Crawford for bringing learning to life in such an engaging way!

This month’s alumni spotlight takes us to the “Heart of Dixie,” where we’re catching up with none other than William Zamudio, our Valedictorian from the Class of 2023 at HSA McKinley Park!
Since graduating, William has been busy riding the Crimson Tide as a Finance and Mathematics student at the University of Alabama, and his journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
William hasn’t just been cruising through college – he’s been making waves. Here’s a glimpse at what he’s accomplished so far:
- He’s made the president’s list every semester.
- He holds a perfect 4.0 GPA.
- He’s set to graduate this summer on August 2nd and is already planning for graduate school!
But it’s not all about academics for William. His passion for education and giving back to the community is at the heart of everything he does:
- He’s tutored international students in English.
- He’s taught financial literacy to formerly incarcerated men through a program at UA.
- He mentors students at Skyland Elementary and tutors at the Tuscaloosa Library.
- As a youth supervisor for DNOW, he’s been shaping the next generation of leaders.
And it doesn’t stop there – William is also deeply involved in campus life:
- He’s an active member of the Film Club, Crimson Cards, and Baptist Campus Ministries.
- He volunteers with the Women and Gender Resource Center and has contributed to emergency relief efforts through a local thrift operation.
- He’s helped a local community college organize their library collection digitally.
In addition to all of that, William found time to write for the New College Review, a magazine published by UA. Not only did he contribute as an editor, but he also wrote a four-page piece that included a two-page poem and a short story!
Looking ahead, William plans to return to Chicago for graduate school, where he aims to pursue a Master of Science in Finance or Economics.
William, we are so proud of all you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see what you achieve next. You’ve truly set the bar high for future generations!
