AUGUST NEWS FROM THE KAMLOOPS SPORTS COUNCIL!
Dear Tournament Capital Volunteers,
Lots of exciting things happened during the month of July including hosting the Special Olympics Summer Games. Unfortunately, we decided to cancel our summer session of the Legacy Performance Games due to the wildfire smoke and evacuees.
We are looking forward to events coming up quickly in August! Ribfest is a local favourite and will be taking place at Riverside Park August 11th - 13th

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES!

Come be a part of the action at Kamloop's annual Ribfest weekend!

Ribfest would not be possible without a great team of volunteers!
Over 300 volunteers are required throughout the park to keep the event running smoothly.
The Ribfest committee is  grateful to the volunteers who have returned year after year, and  are always excited to welcome new volunteers to the team!

All volunteers over the age of 18 are required to  complete a Criminal Records Vulnerable Sector Check.  This check will be provided free of charge
.
All volunteers under the age of 18 require permission and a
signed waiver from a parent or guardian.

A VERY SUCCESSFUL SOBC SUMMER GAMES!

We could not be more pleased with the outcome of the Special Olympics Summer Games held here in Kamloops, July 6th - 9th. Despite the smoke, all events went off without a hitch and we could not be happier with the results in each sport. The Games started with a bang with our special events coordinator and his team delivering an outstanding lineup of performances for the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, beginning with the march of all 9 regions of athletes. The SOBC team worked around the clock during the Games to deliver an unbelievable experience for our local and visiting athletes.
This event would not have been possible without the countless hours of volunteer work. Events like this make us very proud to call Kamloops home, with over 750 volunteers coming together to make this event a success.

KIDSPORT KAMLOOPS

KidSport Kamloops is a local chapter of KidSport Canada. They are a not for profit organization that works to remove the financials barriers that otherwise prohibit a child from playing sports.

Funds raised locally are spent locally and are distributed as grants to cover registration and/or equipment fees associated with participation in a season of sport.  Sport and physical activity provide invaluable opportunities for kids to learn teamwork, fair play and dedication. Through sport participation, kids learn how to set goals and work to achieve them - all while having fun and learning social and fundamental movement skills. Kids in sport benefit from increases in self-confidence and tend to lead happier, healthier lifestyles, now and in the future.
