FACULTY/STAFF NOTES
* Sunil Mithas, World Class Scholar with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has co-written a paper that has been conditionally accepted by MIS Quarterly, a top-tier journal. The paper, titled "Organized Complexity of Digital Business Strategy: A Configurational Perspective," is co-authored by Youngki Park of George Washington University.
* Jackie Reck, associate dean, was cited in an article appearing in a Lehigh University publication citing her co-written article titled "Developing a Government Reporting Taxonomy," published in the Journal of Information Systems. The research by Reck and co-author Neal Snow, assistant professor of accounting at Lehigh University, involved the examination of hundreds of municipal statements beginning in 2011. To read more, click here. She also was cited in a Forbes article for her "groundbreaking" research. The article, titled "The Four Letters Transforming The Municipal Bond Market and Government Finance," discussed the need for interconnectivity in government accounting.
*  Marvin Karlins , professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, co-authored a book in 2008 titled "What Every Body Is Saying" that discusses how to read body language and detect deceptive behaviors. The book, co-written by Joe Navarro, a former FBI counterintelligence officer, last month was No. 5 on a best-selling, non-fiction books list compiled by the Associated Press. The top book on the list: "Becoming" by Michelle Obama.
* Bill Sutton, founding director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, was quoted in a WJCT report last month about the Tampa Bay Rays' efforts to find a new stadium. Sutton said the team should shoulder the blame for the Ybor City plans falling apart. To read more, click here. * Lauren Alford ('18, MBA, MS Sport and Entertainment Management) is now a USF Partnership Activation Account Coordinator with Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties/Yuengling Center.
* Frank Territo ('12, Finance) has been promoted to vice president of finance and administration at The Bank of Tampa.
* Philip Morabito ('92, MBA) was named "Most Admired CEO" by the Houston Business Journal. He is CEO of Pierpont Communications, a Texas-based public relations and marketing company.
* John Connery Jr. ('94, MAcc) has been elected to serve on the executive committee for the Association for Corporate Growth's Global Board of Directors. He is a shareholder at Hill Ward Henderson law firm in Tampa.
* Robert Vargas ('96, Marketing) was promoted to vice president of product implementation and development for Prudential Financial. He has been with the company since 2000.
* Ed Goolsby ('01, MIS and '04, MBA) was named provost of Pasco-Hernando State College's East Campus in Dade City. He previously served as the dean of workforce development.
* Rebecca Lewis ('02, General Business Administration) is now the college-career adviser at Riverview High School in Sarasota. She previously worked in admissions and advertising at USF Sarasota-Manatee, the State College of Florida and New College of Florida.
* Timothy Novak ('17, DBA) was named dean of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine's School of Health Services Administration in Bradenton. He also serves on the board of directors of the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation.

* Jan. 23-24, the second annual Synapse Summit takes place at Amalie Arena in Tampa. The two-day event examines an all-encompassing, interactive and flexible methodology for building, facilitating and revealing the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Florida. To register, click here. * Feb. 21, 2:15 p.m., the Muma College of Business Thought Leader Series will feature Netflix co-founder and serial entrepreneur Marc Randolph, who will discuss the origins of Netflix and how it has grown to change the culture of popular entertainment. The lecture series, which was established to draw nationally recognized speakers, innovators, idea generators, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, authors and "turn-around artists" in business and industry, will take place in the Oval Theater in the Marshall Student Center. The event is free and open to the public, but all seats were claimed shortly after the announcement was made.
